Well, today I hooked up the tiller to the Farmall H and tilled last year's watermelon patch. I then planted some peanuts in it. Got less than halfway done when the rain came, but at least I got some seeds in the ground.
I don't plan to harvest this field. The plow showed that it is mostly red clay-which explains why I didn't get any decent sized watermelons. After the peanuts mature, I plan to fence it off and run a few hogs in there. I figure they will find the peanuts, till the soil and perhaps add even more organic matter.
Then again, I might spend a few days shooting squirrels off of it until the plants come up.
