Saw the first planter running yesterday about a mile west, this morning he was to the east in probably an 80 acre field then moved into 50 acres west of my yard now he's in a 40 acre field 1/4 mile S.E.of me. Think he farms over a couple thousand acres. He's got all big JD stuff, think that's a 24 row planter.
The big IH pulled in across the road awhile ago, he's got almost all IH equipment.
There's another probably 100 acres of corn across the road and about 300 yards east that the guy just started combining, don't know who farms that or why he's running late.
We've lived here since 1989, biggest tractor around here was a 4840 JD, a 4440 and a few similar sized IH's and a big old Case, now when they meet on the road somethings got to give.

There planting here in sw wisc. noticed a lot like your planter photo carrying the markers must be quite a lot using gps signals question is what happens when you lose the signal and where did you lose it ?

I saw a corn planter in the field yesterday west of Ithica Michigan. That's the first one I've seen.
I got my oats in today. I'm satisfied just to have that done. Earl just called yesterday to say my seed corn is here. I'll have to go get that tomorrow.

Been down to the eastern shore of Md. twice in the past couple of weeks. They usually have corn up and growing by the middle of April, but only a few fields were even planted, and none were up. Even the BFO's up here just started planting in the past couple of days, yet last year they were finished by the first of May. Gonna be a late harvest....

Farmerwithmut, when the tractor pulling the planter loses it's GPS the driver is screwed until he can figure out his problem. It's not uncommon. Some of the farmers around here still use the markers along with the GPS just in case but the markers on a 60 foot or 90 foot wide planter seem to be troublesome. They're just too long to stand up to the pull on them. Last year I was planting beans into heavy cornstalks and I couldn't see the mark to save my life. GPS would have been a godsend in that situation. Jim
