spring wheat???

I see an awful lot of , what I consider, smart and successful, but not arrogant, farmers switching and putting in spring wheat, which is some thing they rarely if ever do. With the winter kill and problems in Ukraine do you think wheat, any wheat, is going to make huge market rally this year? Just your thoughts. Sticking to my planting intentions as long as mother nature sticks to hers

Big operators put in a lot of wheat here also. I always plant some wheat and last year was dry again, but the wheat was the best per acre profit crop. Inputs are much less for wheat making it quite profitable, along with selling the straw.

Is it a soil temp. thing? I think wheat can go in the ground while it is lower temp. soils and not rot as much as corn.
Are they just feeling the pinch on planting windows?

If they can get wheat in the ground it might turn out well for them. Up here in western Canada seeding should be getting underway but the weather is against us - rain and cold now and in the forecast, the ground is white around Calgary. Best time to wrap up wheat seeding is by the May long weekend, if it drags into June it gets dicey on the other end.

From what I read this morning on NAT it sounds like a lot of North Dakota and eastern Montana are being delayed as well.
