Deere 720 hydraulic pressure

Howdy,

Anyone know what the hydraulic psi is on a 720 diesel? Also, how can it be boosted? I have a planter I"d like to pull with it but the hydraulics aren"t strong enough to lift it very quickly. I"m thinking someone told me it took around 2000 to lift and swing the planter as needed (it"s a 6 row kinze with splitters). Just curious if it is possible. Also, did the 830s have a more potent hydraulic system or were they about the same? Thanks in advance!

Those tractors did not have the working pressure of the more modern tractors have. The relief valves open at 1450 to 1550 psi so to get up to 2000 working pressure would be asking too much. 1230 to 1300 will catch most later Waterloo tractors hydraulic remote outlet pressures.

Bad idea to boost the pressure even if you know how. The old hydraulic system won't be able to withstand the pressure. You'll have blown lines, blown orings and oil running all over the place.

If you have a more modern tractor to pull it with, you probably should use that. If it will lift it now, you should probably just put up with the slowness.

Is this a pressure issue or a flow issue?

If the relief valve is not popping, you probably do not have enough flow. How large a diameter is the hydraulic cylinder? If it is large diameter, a smaller diameter cylinder would extend quicker, provided you do not pop the relief valve.

If you are popping the relied valve, perhaps there is a restriction in the hydraulic lines, occasionally the hoses will come apart inside and act as a check valve.

Good luck

I'd start by seeing if your pressure is up to spec. first. It may just be low from old age.
I don't have the spec. handy but I think max. was 1500. Most of this new fangled implements require more. Many have built in cylinders that can't easily be swapped out either.

If you are determined to use the 720 I would look into a pto pump. You will need a reservoir and control valves also. You may find what you need on a log splitter.

My brother has a 50 JD that has had the pressure turned up for over 30 yrs. I think it is the same as a 4010 had 2300. Hasn't hurt it a bit. Vic
