8N valve question

I have an 8n that I tore down to replace the valve seals and guides. I have a question about adjusting them when I put it together. The valves and seats are in good shape, but the top of the adjusting bolt is recessed about .015 or so (Guess) where the valve stem contacts it. I see references to a "Cap" that is between the adjusting bolt and the valve stem, but this one doesn't have any. Is this recess wear or put there to hold the valve stem in place? I can't figure out how I am going to set the clearances on the valves accuratly with this recess.

Mine were not recessed, they were flat.
This site sells new ones, but at the price I'd seriously
consider flattening the old ones. New Ones

I recently eliminated the recess by chucking them in lathe and as they were spinning used the disc grinder to smooth them down, just dont get them hot

Older valve refacers typically have an attachment in which you roll the tappet in a "V"-block while holding it against the side of the grinding wheel to true the face of the adjusting screw.

"The "caps" are only used on the late 8N rotating exhaust valves."

Rotating exhaust valves (complete with "roto caps" can be, and often are, retrofitted to the older engines.
