Should a gas additive be added for a 9n tractor? also, some time ago - a long time ago, I asked for help because of difficult steering. I tried several suggestion offered to no avail. However, While replacing the old steering wheel the problem was solved. Dirt and whatever under the steering nut caused the tough steering.

Have had nothing but unleaded since 1974 to use in mine or any thing else and never put anything in it, in fact for the first dozen years did not know was switched over to unleaded.

Likewise I've used unleaded in my 8N since the mid 70's with no problems and it has mowed a lot in that time lots of use.

No ,your 9N dosen't need a "lead" additive(which isn't lead anyway) added to it's gasoline. They could run fine on kerosene which never had any lead in it.

Highway gasser vehicles went from being worn out at 100,000
miles when burning leaded fuel. To be still running fine at
300,000 miles on unleaded. Why run leaded gas?

Not a completely accurate statement.... other things also contributed to modern engine longevity. Overdrive transmissions and locking torque converters come to mind. Remember when the older cars got on the highway? Engines were screaming at 3500 rpm. Today, at 65mph, they are running at 1900. Half the engine speed means half the engine wear. 100,000 miles then becomes 200,000 miles.

Engine wear IS NOT rpm only and back in the day vehicles did cruise at 55mph at approx 2000rpm, not screaming at 3500.
Combustion chamber temperature, combustion chamber pressure, torque output and power output are major factors.
The 1/2 rpm idea also shows up with these guys who have it stuck in their heads. They can run a 540rpm pto generator on 1/2 the fuel and 1/2 wear with a 540 adapter on a 1000rpm tractor.
Besides, what's your point ?

Your tractor hasn't seen leaded gas since the 1970's. Regular pump gas is perfectly fine for it. No additives are necessary.

The so-called lead additives contain absolutely no lead. They can't, it's banned by the EPA except in 100LL aviation gas because the older planes won't run reliably without it, and we don't want airplanes falling out of the sky on our heads.

You can pay the long buck for avgas, but it really won't benefit you.
