Gas tank sealing

I've gotta go along with RedKote. Take the sediment bowl assembly out,put a wooden dowl or something in it to plug the hole and don't get any up in the inside of the gas cap so that you plug the vent.

Yes I do. Google a product called Kwik-Poly, it is what you want to use. It is not only THE BEST fuel tank sealer there is but you can use it for a lot of different things. Super easy to use. I have sealed tanks, dipped floats, strengthened rotten wood, even cast a breaker point arm out of the stuff. Ever had rotten wood around the stool flange in an old house? Let this stuff soak into the wood and it is hard as a rock when it' dries. I even treat new tanks with it. Check it out, I'm not kiddin' you, if you buy anything else you are dropping the ball. I am not a dealer either.

David you don't say where you need to seal. The neighbor had a tank leaking on the bottom around the sediment bowel. He cleaned the metal real good and used some coarse sand paper and got it real clean and rough up and used bondo. That was several years ago and it has not leaked since. I have seen it where some tank sealers have come off and plugged things up. I don't know if they used the wrong sealer or maybe didn't get it cleaned up right before he applied the sealer.

red koat is the oliy one i have used with out a singal fail I have not had good luck with any of the other products have used about 5 or six others

Use any of these products, OR, why not use just plain regular glass fibre resin? My tank was more like a seive than a tank in 1985....I painted glass fibre resin over the complete bottom of the tank then added an extra coat, sanded it and painted it and it not only looks good but it is still leak free........Sam

I used Red-Kote, and it works great if you are prepared for it. Get the tank clean and dry. Get ready to roll the tank around, top to bottom to side to side, upside down etc., roll it aruond real good, get the stuff in the back too, behind baffles if you got them, then drain it out and let it sit so it drains. DO NOT try to re-do it. If you want to, use the left-over to coat tools, screwdrivers, wrench handles, ....
