Does anyone use an electric fence to keep rabbits out of the garden? If so, how high are you running the wire and how many strands? Raccoons haven't been a problem but rabbits are.

Chicken wire should keep out rabbits. It won't keep out groundhogs. I'm putting up a 48" fence
around part of the garden to keep out the rabbits and ground hogs. I'm going to bury the fence about 8 inches so the ground hogs will have to dig their way in. I use to shoot the ground pigs, but there's too many houses around now. The man that has the fence use to post on here. He told me he took down 2000 feet of fence and I could get all I wanted. He's planning on moving to VA. Hal

I was at an auction once where the seller had a naturia raising business (they"re about the size of a rabbit). He had normal electric fence wire strung around that was about 4 inches off the ground. I don"t know if it worked though.

we have a 4' high fence strung with chicken wire, buried in the ground with a hot wire ran around the top. the chicken wire keeps the rabbits out and the hot wire keeps the squirrels out, i think it helps with the racoons too. also it likes to shock forgetful folks who lean on it. or so i hear :)

We use three wires. One about 3" off ground, next about 10", last about 18". Lots of rabbits, no problems. Also keeps deer out until they run through it.

I have been using a 24" electric net fence from Premier Fence Co. It keeps the rabbits and ground hogs out, and is very easy to install and remove. I am on my third season with it, and I am totally satisfied with it.

When the folks were in the country they kept a garden and strung 2 strands of electric about 3 and 6 inches. This was for coons and did the trick.

When they moved to town rabbits were the concern and they use chickenwire not electrified. Now it falls to one of us kids to put it up and take down. BIL usually puts it up and I get stuck taking it down.

Pretty effective for rabbits and no fencer to maintain.
