Electric bill

Got my electric bill today, it was up a little. It usually runs around 27 dollars which is about 10 times more than the electricity used. The bill was 13,755 dollars and 65 cents. I called and it only took about a half hour to talk to a live person. She, after laughing about 2 minutes, said the reading had been estimated for the last three months and had it screwed up some how. the correction came to 20 dollars and 50 cents.

we never get a electric bill, we are off grid, we run on the power of the sun. i am online with the tv on in the background complements of the energy the sun put into our batteries today.

I live in Las Vegas and my lowest bill for the year is about $100.00. You don"t want to know my summer bill lol

had a problem with my power co . had built a new shop with infloor heat with ng boiler. bill was $750 for the first month. called them, said the bill was estimated because they had a meeting and the meter reader couldnt get out to read the meter.they asked if i could go out and read the meter and call them, which i did and they sent me a new bill. my shop i found out was listed as a commercial acount so they averaged their commercial accounts to get my bill. did the same thing the next year. we finally came to an agreement that if they didnt read the meter dont send me a bill!

Hey jennifer,

:)~

Our power company (that's located in another country) just increased the bill by almost double. Our usual bill was $140 - $150 this time of year but last bill was almost $270. Something about 'dependable and reliable service' (if I understood it right).
This increase follows the last increase for "future loss of income due to increased use of renewable energy"!!
I say keep making your own power from renewable.
I was going to invest $1000 last year into it however 2 heart attacks put me much behind the $ ball and still recovering that end. Maybe next year.

a paid it all up front for the solar equipment when you went off the grid,..mebbe even took out a loan on it.;)

After you pay the revised bill, give it a week or so, and call them again. Ask if your account is current and paid.
Had that issue before, person on the phone fixed it,
but the billing computer still had a glitch and I got a late fee, and a shutoff notice because of the 'partial' payment.
People on the phone are usually pretty smart, however billing computers are dumb....and very persistent.

This is true. Alternatives are not cheap at all and there's still the upkeep to contend with. Our bills last month pretty much doubled. I owed over $900.00, and I don't dairy! My neighbors bills were in the thousands. That 's the difference between living in a house in town and living on a farm or running a business.

Boy, mine's a whole lot closer to the $13,755 figure than it is to $27!

Can't imagine having a bill that low.

Wow, and I thought it was just me! We've used a lot of elecric heat this winter, along with the new (to us) pellet stove, which uses electricity for the blowers/auger constantly when it's running. My bill is $310/mo on the BUDGET plan this winter - embarrassing, I know, but now after seeing some of these responses, I'm going to look into why - I thought it was "just " my consumption, but maybe there's some "gouging" going on, eh?

Won't matter. Still have to pay.

A house with just a refrigerator, freezer, water-pump, washer and some lights is going to use 250-300 KWh per month with a few people in it. Most places I've been the monthly "connect" rate is $10-$15 even when no power is used. That would leave maybe $17 for your month of electricity? What power company is that? That would be less then on penny per KWh.

Electric bill is levelized @ $144.00 per month and I pay $130.00 to $150 per month year around 2 fridges,3 freezers, water pump that waters 25 head of cattle, heat pump that heats and cools 1550 sq,ft plus all regular household applances & gadgets plus 4 more out buildings that are all on the same meter,Rural Electric Coop, most electric made with hydropower from Norris Dam in East TN.

Our last electric bill was $274 which includes 100% electric heat (geothermal) heat in central Minnesota. Now if that 12" inches of snow we got yesterday would melt, I would really be happy.

11 year old house. All Electric, Fridge, Freezer, the whole works, with pellet stove, I an usually 160-200 depending on how cold it gets. This winter colder than the last few years, pellet stove in basement couldn't keep up. over 2000 sq feet between basement and main floor.

I have friends that are off the grid, have solar panels and a battery bank, and a inverter. They have a drilled well with a submersible pump, all the comforts. They use propane for anything they can, refrigeration and cooking. They heat primarily with wood. The new efficient bulbs, CFL's and LED's work very well on an inverter.

Winter time "hydro" bill comes in close to $400 running a single heated bowl in the barnyard and a 100 watt bulb in pump house. House is heated by wood/oil combination furnace.
Turbines are being built by the dozen 20 miles from here....don't think my bill will be going down anytime soon

Good old North Dakota lignite and Missouri river power have held the off-peak heating rate to $0.0483 here.

And they don"t control, although that may eventually happen.

Bill for this past Feb.... space heating and water heating... 3480 KWH... $173.08, including $5 controller rent.

YIKES! Would be just under $600.00 at your rate!
Dam it

Need to revise, last month's bill on a total electric, no back up heat, no heat pump was $225. This month, just got it today, $149. That included working a little in shop on 5 hour welding project.

My all time record bill was set this year, sub zero temps, record cold temps. $315. W. centeral Indiana.

My last months bill was $565 for 4290 kWh = 13.2 cents. Mid Michigan.

Its 8.3 cents for energy and 4.9 cents for all the other "fees". Distribution, energy efficiency and securitization.

I have ground source geothermal heat.

Optimal,
I live I south central Mich.
The building is 2/3 storage, I do have a shop in it but don't use like I used to. When I retired a few years ago I made a full sized model of a WW II tank and I was in the building most of the time.
