First days progress on a hay shed. These boys were setting poles in the 35 mph winds. Definitely a younger man's game.

Last fall a fella a bit north of me started to put up a barn using what looked like 2x4s to me, 24" centers. From memory, at least 60'x100' and at least 16' tall. It was going to be big. I'm thinking it might have been taller, maybe. They were going pretty well. It was all studded out, then they put the roof on it. Was looking pretty good. I happened by it about a week later, the roof all in tact, trusses and all were setting on the ground. Every last stud was broken off. What a mess. As I recall, there was a day or two of real high wids in there. What a mess.

Good luck, be careful.

Saw that happen to a new post office that was being built about 15 years ago.

Big building! Had all the studs up and the roof decked. Middle of the night, no wind, it just twisted and all came crashing down. Grace of God it happened at night with no one there!

Local idiot was building a large barn . 80 x 120 I think and 20 ' tall . Thought it would be easier to dig a trench, set poles and back fill with gravel. Had it all up, the poles set , perlins on ,trusses set and sheeting on. Got 50 mile per hour winds one night and you guessed it. It all just rolled over, got lucky and lost very little lumber.

Number of years ago they were building Home Depot big long block wall blew over, put it back up and ......blew over again. Some don"t learn

My father built our home when I was too young to remember anything. He did all but excavation, elec, and plumbing. My mother told me after he had passed on that after putting up the concrete block basement walls, he was back-filling and a long section of the block wall caved in.
