is it possible to make a nonlive pto tractor (800 series ford) into a live pto tractor by installing a double clutch system?

I would guess you could do it. If you go over to the YT Ford board I bet some folks there could tell you.

In addition to the two stage clutch and PTO shaft, some of the parts in the transmission would also have to be changed. Best way to see if it would be feasible is to get parts books, and compare the live vs. transmission driven to see what parts are different. Then you would have to find a parts tractor with live PTO to get the parts, because few if any would still be available from Ford.
 
This has come up several times on the Ford forum. In theory, it could be done if you have a 5-speed. (If you have a 4-speed, it just simply can't be done.) But it would be hard and expensive to find all the parts needed, if buying used. If buying new, it would be VERY expensive. Far easier and cheaper to buy a complete, used x6x transmission, and swap it in. You could then resell your x5x tranny and recoup a large part of your cost. Depending on where you are, a forum member may even have a x6x tranny or parts tractor available near you. (I don't have one, but know of a couple in n/w WI)
 
I have seen a manually operated clutch in northern tool catalog that you put on a shaft and with a lever you engage and disengage it. I don't remember the HP it would handle, but I thought it was a good idea. Seems too simple. Lol
 
With enough money anything is possible.

There are 13 parts to change, which means it is not a practical thing to ever attempt, it is a complicated surgery.

It is easier to buy a Ford 860 with a blown engine, and mate the rear end of it to the front end of yours. That has been done by many.
