Good Oliver 500 story

Rick Stair from Ricks Ag Parts sent me a link to this story about a restored Oliver 500 and some history of those tractors from Farm Collector Magazine. Pretty good reading if you're in to tractor history, and who isn't? Edit: The story is three pages long and has a lot of history of the 500s and 600s. Be sure to click pages 2 and 3 at the bottom of the page.
500 Oliver story

I already got it. I found this one right over by Ensley Center. Brought it home a week ago yesterday. She's a beauty. I'm almost giddy about it. You'd have to look far and wide to find another one for sale. Especially if it runs, and this one does. Like a top!

I went and looked up Rick's website. I had heard that he and his brother were still selling parts for the old Oliver's. I just have not seen them in years though. Good guys.
I drive by his Dad's house everyday on my way to work. His Dad is the one that ran the dealership back when it was around. Was kind of eerie to read on the site about the record sales of the dealership. I always thought they were doing ok and that makes it even stranger when they closed up. I surly don't have all the details.

OOOPS. I was thinking that one was a 500. Makes you wonder what dealer brought it in here. Dan Petersen was a dealer there in the 50s, but he vanished before 1960. That's where Dads Oliver 66 diesel came from, along with some other equipment.

Interesting reading. Now I know a little about that model.
When you first showed us your 500 I couldn't figure out why I didn't remember that model. I worked a Co-Op program in the sixties for our local Oliver dealer. There was allot of Oliver in our area at the time. My Dad had a 550 and allot of Oliver eguipment. There were allot of 550's, 1250's, 1350's but I never saw a 500 until you showed yours. I don't think our dealer ever had one. I guess I never knew they hooked up with David Brown.

Lester bought his from Bill Horton. What was the name of that dealer over north of Rockford? Was that Long's? I don't know if they ever sold one over there or not. We usually dealt with Hessler Brothers on Lincoln Lake Road. I don't remember ever seeing any around there.

Somebody mentioned that one a week ago. Nice straight looking little diesel version. That egg crate grille insert seems to be missing from a lot of them. There are vertical bars under it.

Your right. Hugh Long and his son Jim had the Oliver dealer ship North of Rockford. I don't remember seeing any 5 or 600s there, but remember a Italian Oliver there. I don't recall the model of it. I also went to Hesslers at Slayton Lake after Hugh Long sold out.
