I;m not up on the older models, but this will help- http://www.dbtc.co.uk/index.php?module=Content&func=view&pid=141

That's a link to the David Brown Tractor Clubs DB History page.

I have a friend who used to work for DB. I will e mail the pics to him if you like and he will identify it for you.

I've got it's Oliver twin. An Oliver 500. The grille appears to be the only difference. It's a David Brown 850. Mine's a 1961. If the serial tag is missing on yours, look on top of the frame toward the front right hand side. Mine's stamped in to there.

Seriously- a LONG timer on here, rrlund, just got one just like that. He posted pictures a few pages back. I just took a quick look back, but didn't find it.

My friend replied :-

"Hi Roy,
I would say it's either an 850 or 950 Implematic, probably made between 1958 and 1962. The fenders don't look original to me and the wheel colours don't help identification, however the extending front axle beam, air cleaner and CAV rotary injection pump all point to the pre 63 Implematic era."

The lack of slotted louvers in the hood sides make me think it might be just a touch newer than my early 61.

I have just been talking to my 'David Brown' friend and apparently the 850 and 950 are difficult to tell apart without decals unless you can find out the serial number / model number of the engine. The 850 had a 4 cylinder 154 cubic inch engine whereas the 950 had a 165 cubic inch engine.

950s are "square" at the front where the number plate is, and stick out past the grill(like a 900). 850s are round. This appears to be an early 950 the more I look at it.

Would it be possible to get a better picture of the swinging drawbar and how it mounts? Mine doesn't have one and I'd like to fabricate one for it. Thanks.

Wide fenders were only required in Germany, We used the standard fenders, like on your Olly, in Britain.... I think? these fenders are off a nuffield/ leyland????
