Zinc lubricant additives good shear and cushioning additives to oil--but foul catalytic convertors so most newer car oils have minimal zinc. Diesel trucks don"t have cats so use of zinc additive for camshaft wear, high pressure cushioning is still practiced- meaning the 15-40s recommended are diesel spec and "old" precat car spec or racing car spec= good oil for use in anything that doesn"t have a catalytic convertor. Old motorcycles and tractors fall in this category. My old Goldwing and IHC 350D get 15-40 in summer. RN
