Got the gas Co. mess straightened out

Went to the gas co. this morning to get the mess I mentioned the other night straightened out, and was actually pretty surprised. I first explained the situation to the lady in the office, who then checked her computer. I had told her I called in about 3 years ago and told them to change things, and that I would call when I needed gas again. Sure enough the last fill showing on my account was from 2011. It was a fill from 40% to 60%, and fortunately wasn't for more because I had just pulled in the drive as their guy was backing up to my tank. Anyways, she said nothing had made it into the computer about that. Believe it or not, I don't know, but it sure seems strange why they haven't put anything in my tank in 3 years, especially if I was still on the "Keep Full" plan.

That all done I proceeded to give the lady cash to cover the gas they did put in, along with the little blocking plug they had used when they unhooked the regulator. I think the plug being in one piece, and not damaged in any way, kind of surprised her. I say that because she said what usually happens is that folks try to get them out with everything under the sun, and usually wind up accomplishing nothing but damaging the valve. Oh, foe what it's worth, she did agree with me in the fact that the product in the tank that had been paid for was in fact mine to use.....

Between their screwup in not having my account's fill info correct, having a contact number that I have never heard of, and basically the whole screwed up situation being what it was, she waived all extra fees associated with the disconnection/reconnection, etc, etc. and only charged me for the cost of the gas.

The way I figure it, at my current rate of use, I won't need to call them for more for the next 10 years at least....maybe 12 if I don't cook so many pizzas in the oven.....LOL

All in all it was a real surprise, and 'Mr puncture wound" didn't even have to make an appearance as I had initially suspected he would.....

nice when things work out. I never expect a $crewup to work out easy & it's a pleasant surprise when one does.

Glad to read that it all worked out okay. Good thing you didn't start by returning the plug with a slingshot through the window... lol

Good job Wayne, you handled that well. It's always best to take the high road, if possible.

If I were you, I'd keep a lock on the tank so you don't have to do this again in three years.

Glad everything worked out for you. Now with everything said and done. Find a locking cap to put over the FILL Valve (they can be found) and DO NOT PUT A LOCK ON THE COVER, if you have a fire the fire department needs to be able to shut off the gas.

Wayne,

I"m glad it worked out in your favor.as it should have. I have had my own share of grief with these gas robbers who take the high ground and coerce the home owner with their tactics. What surprises me even more is the number of sheeple who agree with the gas suppliers...disgusting!

I went so far as to contact my local state representative and she did some research and found that here in KY, the propane suppliers and few others are not governed by the Public Service Commission, which means they are free to do as they please, unlike natural gas and electric utilities. This why these propane suppliers can get by with charging "minimum use" fees. Which is nothing short of extortion. When I asked the crooks how they"d feel if Kroger"s called them in the spring and said they were sending bill because they hadn"t bought enough groceries, how they"d react? All you get is a smug, "read the fine print" reply. Gangsters use the same ruse.....it"s called protection money.

That's always my approach - glad it worked for you too. I try to be very pleasant on the first attempt to resolve a problem.

Yeah, probably a good thing it happened on Friday and not during the week, or they might have seen an explosion that rivaled one of their tanks going off.....LOL Seriously though I despise being taken advantage of, and/or treated like 'sheeple' as another post stated. Some folks call me crochaty (sp?)/grouchy, but the way I see it, I just don't take crap off of anybody, and I'm not easily intimidated so I speak my mind and tell it like it is whether the person/company on the receiving end wants to hear it or not. Treat me right and we're good, treat me wrong, and we've got a problem, plain and simple......

What I've grown to realize that there are many rights and wrongs and it depends on what side of the issue you are standing on. They probably thought they were 100% right too. That's where there has to be some compromise, precious little of that going on around the country... everyone thinks they are the right one and the other guy is wrong. Glad you got this one worked out and didn't blow up, that would be wrong.

NCWayne,

"crotchety": most usually defined as my dominant personality trait!

I, too, have benefitted from a less sour attitude, but still bristle from being wronged.

Glad things worked out for you.
