O/T Death At Younger Ages- 3 In 3 Weeks

3 weeks ago, son-in-law's brother died of an aneurysm. He was 46. Just 2 weeks prior, he passed his CDL physical with hazmat endorsement with nothing found. This past Friday, I had 2 cousins die on the same day. One on dad's side was 48 and had a massive heart attack. One on mom's side was 51 and died of cancer. He had found he had cancer 4 months ago.

I can see people in their 70's, 80's or 90's because it is more expected as we get older but looking at the obituary column in the paper, the ages seem to be getting a lot younger now. And most are from things we connect with older people.

I know what you mean. I check the obits on line every day. Seems like at least one or two a week are under 60.

I noticed it too. Lots of deaths under 60. Go down to Walmart on a Saturday night and you will see some of the reason. Not all, but a lot fit into these categories.

Weight 300 lb. Smoke a pack a day. Case of beer in the cart. Cart full of Pizza and chips. Dinner was at McDonalds. Last exercise was a trip to the toilet.

OR

No teeth, ragged clothes, car with a different color fender and a drug arrest sheet 30 items long.

Not good lifestyles.

What I have noticed for years is that you will see several weeks with a lot of younger deaths, and then you will see a time with all older ones with very few younger ones. Don't know why, but that is the cycle I see in our area.

My dad could have taught me a lot that he did not. One thing that comes back to me now as I age, is something he would repeat often, "The young will die but the old must die". Sorry for your loses.

You're probably going to see many more young people dropping dead in the next 10-20 years.

Modern medicine lets them survive infancy, when in the past they would have died as babies. The problem is they have some underlying, undetected defect that's a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.

People who are hardcore addicted to dope wear their families and friends down, after 5-10 years there is no longer any hope they will change. At that point, many of their family members actually wish they would kill themselves with the dope to end the constant cycle of lying, stealing and disappointment. Most of the tears shed at a methheads funeral are tears of relief.

Sorry for your losses. Not that long ago, 46, 48, and 51 would have been ripe old ages for a normal lifespan. I have read some statistics where (quoting from memory...) if you make it to about 65 pretty healthy, then your chances of getting much older are much higher. But getting to 65 while healthy is hard. Seems pretty logical too.

With all of the modern medical treatments, most folks survive much longer than they would have 100 years ago. Just look at crime. Gang bangers get shot with several bullets but the ER Dr. patches them up and they go back to what they do. 100 years ago, one shot would have killed you from the wound or later from an infection, thus lowering the crime rate in the future.

Yea those fenders being different color from the rest of the car will kill you every time(LOL)
But you're right a lot of being people have horrible eating habits also drugs have to be added to the mix I've known several Cocaine users that died later in life after they quit the drugs probably because of the heart damage the cocaine did to them.

Aneurysm is tough to catch sometimes, when I was at the cardio vascular place, there was a wall with informative posters about this and strokes, symptoms, how imperative time is, can't wait around on something like that, if you suspect theres a problem, my father has one, they monitor it, could be heredity. Any symptoms, you need to deal with it, not sure how they found his, I'll probably need to be checked for these, think my grandmother had one, but she lived til '86 and it was not an issue. There is so much too this, just speculation, I knew someone who had a problem, waited too long and it took his life, mid to early 50's back in '96.

People are so different its hard to say, I've tried to avoid unhealthy food, cholesterol, used to play sports and take part in rigorous activity, according to the doctor, medical people, I don't have any calcification, BP has been perfect since day one so far, yet I'm not a health food fanatic either, I try to do my best. A friends dad, age 44 back in '88 or so, died instantly of a heart attack while on the job, at the nysp barracks next to our place, he was very healthy, career state trooper, just turned investigator, I'm not sure how he lived, he was way too young, he was gone before he hit the concrete face first, not much blood where he collapsed.

Another friend, had his prostate removed a few years ago, he's 4 years younger than I, now his PSA's are up again, he looks fine, its hard to say, we're all different. An inlaw in our family, in his 90's, WWII bomber pilot, still rides horses, always been healthy, lives reasonably healthy too, so its hard to figure if you are the kind of person that tries to live a healthy life, within reason, it works or it does not. I mean I know some that have no regard for diet or exercise, they will pay for that at some point, or you get to an age its hard to excerise due to injuries, parts being worn out, the job and all that, happens to all of us, and we may pay for it, just so many factors to consider. I do believe one needs to pay attention to nutrition, stay active, exercise if you can, ones job can provide some of that, yet there is no guarantee, I do think most can keep a healthy cardio system without a lot of effort, yet some won't put minimal effort into it. My father has paid for some of this with stents and other circulatory/cardio work done, excess weight, diet played a role, he has not lived like that for a long time, his wife is very health minded and also very fit, he followed suit and hes better for it. Interesting to discuss, but am certainly sorry to hear of your losses, its never easy. I have a friend thats an RN and he works in the Oncology floor, over in NH, he stopped over and a few of us had dinner over the weekend, he told us of a young lady, age 23 that succumbed to colon cancer, part of his job is to make their last days/hours as comfortable as medically possible, this young lady, her, or her body would not give up, and he said the most powerful or best pain medication they can administer was not enough, I do not envy his job, takes a special person do help others in terrible need, can't figure why someone so young has cancer, does not seem fair at all.

My neighbor, someone I admire, he's had a tumor on the brain, not sure what they did with him, but hes been ok a long time, problems here and there, he's my dads age, still works part time, and takes care of his place, he's had to take it easy at times, but he says, I'm not going to worry about it, a very humble, polite and appreciative person who has lived a model life in my book, and I like his attitude, just live and not worry, do the best you can, its all you can do really.

Stuff I have to ask here.
The guy that died of an aneurysm....Did he take vitamins? Drink Alcohol?
I ask this because I have heard that aneurysms are caused by a lack of a mineral, weak artery walls, and a blow out occurs, with high blood pressure too.

20 years ago or so I worked at a place where a 42 YO woman drove home, pulled over to the side of the road and died.......Brain aneurysm. She was a heavy drinker, didnt eat well either. Real thin and weak looking.

My wife almost died 5 years ago, at the age of 38. Blood sugar levels were hitting 600+ at times. We did not know that she became diabetic, she could have died in her sleep. She is on meds now, and keeps it monitored. Scary .

Neighbor died with an aneurysm. He went down in the barn with pain. Eventually got found, sent to hospital, cleaned up, stabilized(whatever that is), settled in and resting. They were going to send him home in the morning. But he died overnight. Are these things that difficult to figure out?

And soon there will be a bunch of younger deaths. A new crop of graduates will emerge from the high schools next month and soon after there will be an increase in teenage deaths from a variety of causes, often with alcohol and speeding vehicles involved.
