I posted some data yesterday from my father-in-law's old Ford factory spec books. He's a retired Ford engineer and started with Ford in the 50s. I mentioned the 534 gas engine that was used in some Ford heavy tractor-trucks. Some comments were made about the gas engines not having much power. I worked for a moving company that had two 1965 Ford tractor-trucks. One gas and the other diesel. The gas version we had was a lot more powerful then the diesel. I just got looking at the optional engines and I see now there were two diesel options. We had the 534 cubin inch gas engine and the 588 cubic inch diesel. Like I said, that 534 gas was a lot more gutsy then that 588 diesel. There was however, an optionan 743 cubic inch diesel which I've never driven. That one does have more snot.

The truck in the picture was called a "stepladder ford" and were built up to about 1967. The NT engines were built by cummins and had 195 HP, 220 HP or 250 HP. The 250 model was a 220 with a blower. I started my truck driving career driving a 250 HP model.

We had in around 1980 ??? a 1965 Ford 1 ton dually with a dump bed and that 352 V8 engine. Seemed to run good. Really had Good brakes too as I remember drum all around and split rims too.

I had a 1969 3/4 ton with 16" split-rims. I had one blow apart one day due to rust and the lock rings not being very trustworthy. Finally changed it over to one-piece rims.

Had one of those blow apart on a dump truck one day at my dads service station.

The customer was adding air, he had just bought 2 new tires at Montgomery Wards. Found out he had 2 different brands of wheels, they put the wrong rings on, got them mixed up.

He had just finished airing the tire up, stood up and took one step when it blew. Missed him by inches, totally flattened an Anco wiper display box, It and the lock ring flew about 100 yards across the field behind the shop.
