Sugaring,tractor parts to the rescue

I started boiling yesterday morning, and the blower for the draft on my evaporator didn't sound right. I peeked under the floor and saw that the the belt was missing. We pulled up the floor and took the belt out, looked at the numbers. the number started with IH***.

I said "That's a generator belt for a Farmall C."

"I know I used something out of stock when I originally installed that blower."

"There should be a new, or at least a good used one hanging in the shop."

There was, we installed it, and kept on boiling, until 11PM.

It just barely froze last night, I went up to check the vacuum pump at 5:30 this morning and the sap was still trickling in. I hope I can keep up with it today.

That's what I taught my nephew. His farm is 40 miles from the nearest town with a good source of hardware and 90 miles from a city where there are multiple suppliers.

I stocked him with hardware to show him how much better it was to have it on hand than to drive a lot of miles for a low cost item.

There used to be 3 hardware stores in a town close to him; all 3 closed as farms grew bigger.

The neighbors seem to come to me for 'parts'.I guess I am the neighborhood hardware 'store'. LOL
