I have a 1946 McCormick International W-9. It has a lot of debris in the gas tank which causes the fuel line to plug. I plan on taking it off and cleaning it once the weather gets better. What's the best way to clean it? Thanks.

Depends on what's in the tank, most likely it's rust. If it's rust, good chance it's time for a new tank.
You can have it vatted out at a radiator shop, but that will probably cause leaks. Have to ask yourself if you want to gamble that investment on cleaning your old one or put that money toward a new one.

Ya it has millions of rust particles floating around haha. I'm trying to decide if I just want to sell the tractor as is and not put any money into it. I might go ahead and get a new one.

Is it gunk or rust. If you have no leaks and very little rust I would take the tank off and pour a couple of gallons of MEK into it and shake and let it sit and shake again. ETC. The MEK will remove all of the varnish and gunk. A little rust SHOULD stop at you settlement bowl. If the tractor set for a very long time the gas will evaporate away till all you have left is a real gooooey mess in the bottom. MEK is very strong stuff and will remove paint in an INSTANT so be very careful. Did a couple of old lawn mower tanks a chainsaw and a lot of carbs. Just my .o2$ so be careful!

you can clean the tank and then put a liner in it. it will seal the tank. i have done some myself, but i find it easier to just have a radiator shop clean the tank and put the liner in. generally runs about a hundred dollars or so. they sell the tank liner on this site.
