Lost my Bubby

I have always read with sadness when someone loses a pet. Now is my turn. I lost my best buddy, Bandy the Australian shepherd, in a driveway mishap this morning. Guy was coming in the driveway and Bandy ran under the tire, killing him instantly. Bad experience for both of us. Sure gonna miss him.

Sorry to hear that you lost your best friend. I had to put my 12 yr old Rat Terrier to sleep last summer due to kidney shut down. She was born here on my place so I was realy attached to her.

Deepest sympathy. Had about the same thing happen five years or so ago. A dog that had never been seen near the road and he ran right out in front of a car as fast as his legs could carry him. Totally shocking and unexpected. I think that's the worst way to loose them.

Is never easy. My sympathy to you. I had that happen to me as well years ago. Was out for a walk, Sammy, my dog was crossing the road to be on the side I was and stopped right in front of a car. It happened no more than 10-15 feet from me. He never chased cars at all. After a dog or two later that did chase cars I found something that helped or atleast the dog I have now. When we were out for a walk and a car came down the road I would stop and hold the dog on the side and back of the neck. As the car came closer I would pinch harder and hardest as the car came by then let up. I figured he would associate the car with hurt. Every time a car comes by now he goes off to the side of the ditch and sits and waits for the car to go by. It may seem a little harsh but is less harsh than getting hit by a car.

Gene Dotson; sorry for your loss. If it wouldn't be too sad for you, I'm sure a lot of folks would like to see a picture. It seems like it has been years since seeing your handle and posts on yt; can't recall if mainly the IH board? We should all be as good as pets think we are. Take care.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Last dog I had, I ran over and killed coming home from work with the same result. I had vowed to never have another dog, but Bandy showed up here one snowy morning 7 years ago and adopted me and moved right into my life and home. He was a good protective dog.

My sympathy. We still miss our Corgi, the Collie cross and the Border Collie Cross. The 2nd Border Shepard is almost 11 but the two new dogs keep him young.

She's big girl now and can run like a rabbit. In fact she can out run a rabbit. She caught 3 and they won't be coming back. That back yard is her's. Hal

Sorry for your loss. I know it brings a lump to your throat. Had to bury two of mine a few years back.

I worry that I may lose one or both of mine the same way in the driveway.

My Heart goes out to you. I am dreading the loss of my old yellow Lab, Abby. She will be 12 this summer and getting pretty crippled up from age. Took her out to the country to run today, and she doesn't run anymore. Really doesn't even walk fast. Sorry about ranting like that, You have my sincere condolances.

Sorry Gene, thru the years I have had to put several of my dogs down and it is never gets easier. Type "Rainbow Bridge" into your search engine.

Very sorry to hear this. Dogs are with us too short a time buts its tougher when they pass due to accident. I shouldn't read these posts because I always recall my dogs and brings a few tears. God Bless.

Gene, my prayers to you and your forever friend. We have 2 Aussies now, and have lost 2 in accidents. It's a sad time when such things happen, and we often speak of the lost ones as if they are still here. It is too soon, but speaking from experience, another new "best friend" will certainly help ease the sorrow.

Hello Gene
I know how you feel .Over the years I have had to put down several pet Dogs for various Health reasons , I will not let one suffer , when the Vet can t guarantee that the Dog won t suffer & will be able to enjoy life .

So sorry to hear ,Gene. It's bad enough to lose them to growing old but worse to lose from accident. I've had both happen. There's not much one can say to help, just that we feel your pain and they are a family member just like the rest of the family. RB

So sorry to hear of your loss. We had a mutt named Spot that loved to bite at folks' front tires when they came in our yard. Christmas morning of '68 or '69, my cousin got Spot when he slipped coming in the yard and the RF tire caught him. Hard thing to do, burying a pet on that day of the year. Had to put our 12 1/2 year old dog down back in August last year, who says you can't "get attached" to a quote "dumb animal" end quote? I shed tears burying my pets just as much as a person's funeral. You gonna get a replacement soon or wait a bit?! We've always had at least one dog, best "warning device" to have out where we live!

I"m so sorry for your loss, Gene. Most have us have been down that path. It hurts. I post this whenever someone loses a buddy. Sometimes you just have to cry.
God Bless. Chuck

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
