351m coolant in oil

I have a 1978 f150 with a 351m. The other day I delivered hay with it and when I got home I had a huge puddle of oil underneath it. I pulled the dipstick and it was all creamy. My coolant was also low. I pulled all 8 spark plugs and 7 were wet but smelled like gas still. The 8th one was dry. The truck is very wore out and not worth putting a lot of money into. Could I pick up some bars leak and run it with that after I change the oil? Would that stop the leak? I am assuming it is probably a head gasket.

Most likley not. If it's a head gasket or cracked head there is just too much pressure, as in combustion pressure, for Bars leak to work.

Now if it's something else, like a front cover gasket or intake gasket, it might work.

At this point nothing really to loose if it is otherwise not worth fixing.
 
If that much coolant was going in a cyl, you would be followed by a huge cloud of white smoke. the intake is dry, so it couldn't get in from there. A head gasket could have leaked from a water hole to a push rod hole, that engine doesn't have a timing cover, only a steel plate that the water pump bolts to, it may have rusted through.
 
If your block was cast at the Michigan foundry before March 2nd,1977 then it is prone to cracking in the lifter galley also. The 351M blocks from the Cleveland foundry did not have this problem and neither did the Michigan foundry blocks after March 2nd,1977. They are also notorious for burning the exhaust valves and head gaskets on the passenger side because that side runs hotter. I have seen a few that had been ran with burnt valves until the exhaust seat cracked and the head cracked too.
 
If you can still get it try K & W Block Sealer. I remember one time I sold a 195? Dodge truck to a guy I knew. Someone had put a Chevy straight 6 in it. When we got it cranked up their was a split in the side of the block about 6 or 8" long spraying water ot of it. My dad who was a mechanic told us to get it hot and pour in the K&W. Everytime it got a little bit littler. After about 6 or so cans it completely sealed up. Was still holding after he got through with it and sold it.
 
Well, if its a head gasket, you should experience overheating at some point as combustion will start blowing into the cooling system, pressurizing and heating it. If you have so much coolant getting into the oil gallery that its displacing oil to the point that you are overflowing onto the ground in puddles, major problem. Your coolant will break down the oil, and there will go the bearings. Could be an intake manifold gasket sending antifreeze down below where its going right into the oil pan. Intake manifold gaskets are easy to change overall as compared to cracks in either the heads of block. IF you are going to take the time to pull the intake manifold, go one step further and pull the heads. You will already be there, take the extra step. Get yourself the "top end" gasket set, and replace every gasket in it, including the head gaskets. You can do the top end in less than four hours while the engine sets in the engine compartment. You will need a gasket scraper, some towels to plug the cylinders, and a shop vac to suck out anthing that falls into the cylinders like dirt. If those don't do it, the only thing left is a cracked block or head.

Bars Leaks or something of the sort to stop that much coolant getting into the oil that it overflows? Not likely.

I am more surprised by the fact you have a functional 351M. Biggest waste of cast iron Ford ever made. You might try K-seal, as others stated, or Blue Devil. Napa carries both. Or find a 460 to hang in it, I believe the M engines used the big block bell housing, so no trans swap needed.
 
I dumped 2 cans of bars leak and a thing of alumaseal in it last night. I've ran it 30 miles now and so far there's no coolant in the oil.
