The turbo on this 1971 Ford with approx. 9000 hours was turning only with constant twist of the compressor end. It would not free wheel at all. I checked both oil drain and supply and both were clear. So I thought that there must be coke on the bearing and maybe I could clean it. Nothing to lose, so I sprayed WD-40 in the supply and got a lot of brown out as it came back up. I kept rotating the wheel and spraying. Now it turns as freely as you would expect. There is a slight amount of oil in the air outlet, and in the connection between the tube and the manifold, just a few drops, and no appearance of oil in the manifold. So I am wondering is the oil enough to cause a problem and is it likely that coke on the seal could have caused it to leak? It will be a battle to get the turbo off the mass of rust. Well, maybe not to get it off but to drill all the bolts and studs out to get it back on. Don't worry I will get it oiled back up good before putting the oil lines back on.
