I was out looking at my 8n and I saw the serial number on the drawbar 9n5182 this makes me think its off a 9n my great grandpa might have had before any Ideas?

That is possible that it was from your great-grandpa's 9N. However, that is a part number, not a serial number. Ford used the 9N prefix on many part numbers for years...it refers to the year the part was -designed- not made.

The Ford part number system identifies the year of design and the item it was originally designed for. Parts that are common between the 9N,2N and 8N will all have a 9n identifier. Many early Mustang parts carry an identifier describing them as 1960 Falcon parts. Engine parts for my 86 Mustang carry an identifier that describes them as 1975 Pinto parts.
