the L on industrial tires

I have question I cannot seem to find poking around on the internet.

Backhoe tires, 17.5L-24, 19.5L-24, 16.9-24 etc.
I just bought a pair of Firestone 16.9-24 All Traction Utility, and they clearing don't have the L. All the 17.5s I looked at do. What does the "L" signify?

Help an uninformed guy out. Thanks.
Rick

Nah nah nah. I turned the tire around for the right side, give me better traction in the mud!!! I keep going in circles.

Actually, they wont be here until Wednesday.

I think it has something to do with the hight vrs width issue.I have a couple farm tractors with 9.5L15 and 11L15 fronts. The 5.00x15;6.50x16;7.50x15;10.00x16 etc tires do not have that designation.

Thanks. Never knew that. I had always assumed anything mounted on equipment, backhoes, ag, etc was all low speed.

Thanks,
Rick

From Nebraska Tire (and also found on other sites:
What does the “L” mean in my size of my tire, such as 11L15, the L refer
to Low Section Width.
It is not a specific number or ratio, it indicates this tire as having a lower section width than the same size W?O the L Jim

Rick I spent 22+ years in the farm tire business, L stands for "lower profile". That means the sidewall of a 11LX15 is lower than a 10x15 old style tire. I haven't seen a 10X15 for over 20 years, Around here Badger used to use them on their manure tanks and other wagons.
