Given how they had a different guest every week, the airline passengers will be rescued and the seven castaways will still end up stuck there.

that council discussion fits right in with the creationism vs science and social studies content debate going on with our school textbook committee.

This should enlighten you regarding Mr. Price. Unfortunately, I can"t say what I really think on this board. It would get this poofed in a seconds.

A friend of the top assistant to Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price received a subpoena this week related to a federal public corruption investigation into the commissioner, an attorney said Thursday.

Tom Mills, an attorney for Dapheny Fain, said a friend of Fain’s received the grand jury subpoena. Mills said that he’s heard from lawyers that others also have received subpoenas in connection with the case recently, but he had no other details.

An FBI affidavit identified Fain as a co-conspirator in Price’s alleged schemes to use his position to make and hide illicit profits. But the full scope of the investigation is unclear. Both Fain and Price have previously denied wrongdoing.

The fact that subpoenas for documents and/or testimony are still going out could signal that the prosecutors and federal agents are continuing to seek evidence in the investigation, which came to light nearly three years ago. It doesn’t necessarily mean indictments are imminent, Mills said.

“All of a sudden there’s some activity, nobody knows what it means,” he said. “I don’t know how to interpret it.”

An assistant for Billy Ravkind, Price’s attorney, said Thursday that they didn’t know anything new about the case.

The U.S. attorney’s office and FBI also declined to comment.

The fact that it’s been almost three years since federal agents raided Price’s office and home has led to some speculation about the status of the case. Legal experts say it’s not unusual for complex federal public corruption investigations to take several years before indictments are handed down.

Matthew Orwig, former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, said a flurry of activity this late in the case could mean the government has a good idea of what the charges will be and is preparing for an indictment. He said he wouldn’t be surprised to see indictments within the next few months.

“The government is certainly closing in,” Orwig said, while acknowledging that it’s informed speculation.

The existence of a major FBI investigation into the commissioner’s activities was revealed in June 2011 when agents seized almost $230,000 from a safe in Price’s home. They also seized just over $230,000 in proceeds from property Price sold to a Dallas-area developer.

Shortly after the search warrants were executed, the FBI handed out a wave of subpoenas to various businesses and individuals, including one seeking documents from Ross Perot Jr.’s Hillwood development company. Hillwood had been a client of Kathy Nealy, a political consultant and Price ally who also was subjected to federal search warrants.

In 2012, the U.S. attorney’s office filed a civil forfeiture suit in an attempt to keep the money seized from Price, saying it is the proceeds of crimes. Price and Fain have said the money came from legitimate business dealings. Included with the civil filing was a lengthy FBI affidavit detailing numerous allegations of corruption by Price and his associates.

No one has been charged.

Last April, a federal judge put the forfeiture case on hold pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Given the over-zealous, constantly contradictory news coverage, and the key-stone-cops atmosphere surrounding the search effort, I think it's easy to lose sight of the underlying tragedy. That gets lost behind the comedy show we've been witnessing for over a week now.

It IS a tragedy of course - but I for one think we can cut Jon or anybody else a little slack for finding this one humorous.

My brother was just in Malaysia and flew back to Beijing where he lives a few days before this happened - could have been much different for us if he had been delayed. That thought keeps this one in the proper perspective for me - but, I can see why others lose sight of it.

It's just the concept they may have landed next to an island and became castaways. I had the same thought and mentioned it to my wife.

Current trivia commentary gets used and then gets misunderstood by older or foreign listeners who didn"t read or watch "Twilight". As a counter- a old crock who quotes or refers to a Bible verse gets funny looks- like the guy on parole being advised to read Ephesians 4:28 and 29 for possible application to his situation that asks Why? Or a warning that messin" with a mechanical device might get the messer a "M1 Thumb" A simple science referent for a student of political science and sociology? You have to be careful use words with one word having included political meaning. Like discussing classic English literature like that written by Dickens that has a "niggardly " character-- remember that one couple years back? Culture divide among the hand craftsman and the internet/Smart phone connected is getting wider- almost makes me wish for a solar flare direct hit on earth instead of 9 days off miss from couple years back. Mrs Dave H will enjoy that follow up on the story. She was pretty incensed over the whole thing when she heard about it. She is a "Howell" also. Common name, I know.

Jon

Keep the funnies coming, I do enjoy them.

That said today's was not a winner, they can't all be.

Does anyone on that plane have a cell phone? Did aliens snatch the plane out of thin air, (almost as stupid as the black hole comment) How is it possible that a Boeing 777 had all the transponders go into an "off" mode.?

The plane likely crashed into the ocean, all drowned. Watery grave.
