1855 Woods mower wont pull on one side

The original subject was "Re: OT Woods Zero Turn 5140 Mowing Machine".

I have a woods 1855 serial number 286868 mower that I just bought.
The right wheel will hardly pull at all in either direction.
Left side pulls just fine.
There is what I think would be called a hydro pump inside each wheel, with a common small reservoir that has two lines feeding to each pump.

I've checked the linkage between steer handles and the hydro and there seems to be no problem.

Any ideas what could be wrong.
(PS. there is a note painted on the frame inside the left wheel that says the hydro was replaced on Jul 1 2004.....but only 115 hours ago. Could it be a bad hydro unit or might it be something less complicated and expensive?

thanks

If the Hydraulic motors are the same from side to side, I would swap them and see if the problem travels with the motor. Jim

I had an older Woods mower that was made by Grasshopper. It had one side that would turn with no load on it, but would not pull the mower. I was told it had an internal loop that was damaged and had to be replaced. Hope you are luckier.

This would be way to simple, but is there an unloader valve on the hydro? Is it closed?

This would be a small hand operated valve that allows the wheels to turn for pushing the mower when not under power.

I would agree with Steve. There is an un-loader valve on each hydro that has to be flipped and locked in place manually to disengage the hydro so you can push or tow the mower and it lets the drive wheels free wheel. It's worth looking into.

Or if the motors have seperate drive belts I would replace the belt or both of them. I have one drive belt on my Woods 1542 and it wouldn't pull up hill. Found out my belt was glazed and replaced it and it worked fine. Both my motors were not pulling when this occurred.

tried both suggestions....unloader valves seem to be fine and in proper position.
no belt drive on this mower....it is all pto driven.... at least my son could not fid any belts except for the mower deck belts??
Thanks so much for your suggestions. If you have other ideas, I'd love to hear them

I have found that it pulls just fine on both sides until it has been running about 10 minutes. As it warms up, increasingly the right side starts pulling less and less until it will hardly pull at all.

The motors are not directly belt driven.
It has a double belt driveshaft that drives an offset shaft that drives both motors. If it was a belt problem, it would affect both motors.

Any suggestions appreciatefd
