Plow play day with the Massey

It was dry and dull today but the land was fine so I managed to get a little plowing done on a friends field. The start of the field was on an upward slope which meant the Massey was on her limit for wheel grip when I dropped the plow but was fine after that with loads of power in reserve.I was plowing in low 2nd high Multi, I guess you guys would go much faster but maybe you dont have many stones or rocks that we do. I think I need to get some discs organised to try to improve the quality of the work, I think the discs would help to cut rather than tear the land.

Looks beautiful Bill! I'm envious. With what I've seen portrayed I never imagined you had such nice ground. I'll be lucky to be on the ground in a month. Only chance I have otherwise is if we ever get rid of this snow, and we get a little frost. We had gotten rid of most of the snow once, but it got a major replenishment a week ago!

It is a MF 880 hydraulic reset. Good solid plow. There is a 4 bottom spring reset, and a 5 bottom hydraulic here somewhere under the snow.

Nice pics of nice affordable farming practice. Proof that there are some who don't need "government" to make it farming.

Bill,

I'm very impressed with the topography there. We were in Scotland about 29 years ago - took a train from London to Edinburgh, then to Inverness, then down the west coast. Didn't see any ground like you are working.

Mu bucket list includes being able to plow a field of sod someday. Don't think it will ever happen around here.

I plowed saome 22year old sod today.1256 in third gear/TA low.4x16 ALL the tractor wanted. The front was off the ground many times.I hate plowing sod......

Mine is a six 16 inch. What do you pull it with? Do you use front weights, I think the Massey may benefit from a little front weight. Im guessing I have the only MF 880 in Scotland, nearly all our stuff was fully mounted until a few years ago some are now changing to semi due to their size.

The 28 didn't flinch, it was on 20.8-38 axle duals. The 3545 did just fine. Come to think of it, I believe I had the same plow on the 3680 4x4 once or twice.
