Had to take this picture of a lo all feedlot stockpile of silage and bales. They are probably cornstalk bales. I believe I've heard they feed out around 30,000 head a year.

I really think that is not a good thing to do. Put that much in one place. If there happened to be a fire, that would be a devistational site to see all that ablaze. Sometimes its best to not put on such a big show and try to impress other people. This might be one of those cases here. Heard of to many stories of people losing all of there hay but yet many still do this type of thing.

Back in '96 our local Dairy's large stack of large round bales caught fire in the middle of the stack from spontaneous combustion. It went unnoticed until late at night when someone noticed a glow coming from the stack. It took our local Volunteer Fire Department nearly 8 hours to fully extinguish the stack, they had to pull the stack apart & bust open, spread, & drown each individual bale. A real MESS.

I really wish people would list a location, at least a state, when they post pics like that.

"Devistational"...that a new word on me.

Was a fellow here a few year ago had a big pile of hay catch on fire. Had a empty trench silo close so got his dozer and pushed it off in the silo. Hay was in short supply that year also.
