Tractor terms

Ive been thinking.

There are lot of tractor terms I see on here and some of you might be able to help add to the list.
Being able to know the terms would help out the novice.

Barn Fresh-----Definition, Looks rusty, with manure on the tires.

Purrs like a kitten---Definition, Sounds good, Might run like crap.

Ran when I parked it---Definition, Does not run now.

Weather checked Tires---Definition, Holds air.

Please add to this list if you have one that you have heard before.

Fully restored.

(with a pressure washer and two cans of spray paint, half of which is all over the tires)

"Runs out good" and "Blue in color" are terms that just bug me. If it runs out well, that's fine, but what is running out. Where? And the color. When you say green, I'll assume that the paint is green, or red, or yellow, or blue. I know I'm being silly and picky, but while we're on the subject...

Engine- free or loose Usually this means it turns over but hold on to your wallet on what it still might need to run.

As Is, Where is Buy it, load it if you can, and then decide whether to take it home or straight to the scrapper. Any problems...DON'T BOTHER TO CALL !

Stuck Might take a few days with penetrating oil or dynamite to free this one up.

"Just needs an adjustment" which often translates to "I'm too stupid to fix it myself and it's probably worse then I think - so I'm selling it."

May be difficult to load-Tires flat or gone, engine and/or transmission seized and bring along a chain saw just in case a tree may be growing up between frame rails

JD B for sale - - No seat, No steering wheel = = Be perfect for someone that lost there A$$ and don't know wich way to turn!! Just had to throw this one in with the mix of the topic.

I like "rare"...usually means the owner has NO clue what he has, but it's old, and someone told him about a 730 HiCrop, Propane, Argentine, with 42" rubber and 36" wide front end and a foot clutch, and hydrostatic tranny that is actually documented by Deere Archives that sold on CList for $99,000! It's usually a '48 B or a 47 2N!
also "one of a kind"...guy locally has been trying to sell an 8N that he put long bar/short bar tires on, a header, a ROPS, all kinds of extra lights, an after market TSC seat, an alternator and an expensive auto paint paint job on for $5500! I finally told him how much it'll cost to get it back to being palatable for a real tractor guy...it's down to $5000 now! LOL
Another is "WFE", makes those old C, H, and Ms worth a ton more it seems, around here we take 'em off as soon as we can to make more room in the shed, and on the trailer, and to be able to turn 'em around in less than a football field!

Reminds me of an auction I went to. Disassembled H farmall laying in a pile. Didn't even look like it was all there and beat up. It ended up bringing like $1,300 and that was like 20 years ago. Family members were bid fighting to get it. Wish they would of not put it on the sale. I was looking for a parts tractor and had driven along ways and would of payed what it was worth. Ended up bringing almost double what a good running one would of at the time. Oh, I was so mad. Drove along way and killed a whole Saturday just to see their family dispute.

Easy Fix --- It will cost you slightly less to fix this one than to buy a brand new one.

"Recently rebuilt" - You'll need to tear it all back apart
to see what I screwed up.

"Fresh Paint" - You can't see what I did

"Low Hours" - New proofmeter

"Like new rear tires" - Have big lug thingies on them

"Rare", "One of a kind", "Hard to find" etc - I want more than it's worth

"Completely rewired" - Doesn't charge or smoke damaged

"Awesome tractor!" - at least it was until I used the front end loader
as a bulldozer for the last 5 years

"I need something smaller" - I bought this 75 HP gasser and
expected to run it on a quart of fuel per day

'Vintage' -- May or may not really be old, but is rusty, broken and or worn out. Plus we are asking 10X what it's worth.

If you buy this your wife will drive it. = Ya, right, that's not gonna happen. And if I do buy it, I'm gonna have to sneak it home to the shed without her knowing about it. Which happened the last time. Next time will probly be divorce papers to come later!

can deliver = so you cant find me to bring it back

leaks a little oil = about a gallon a hour

needs battery = starter junk or dont charge

New plugs and wires (or just tuned up) = something is seriously jacked up internally and throwing parts at it only made us realize it is terminal.

I have NEVER replaced parts on something I was going to sell. Why would you? I also have never bought something that had a bunch of new parts on it. I'd rather take the time to do it myself and make sure it is like I want it.

I also love it when something has an engine with less than 100 hours on it. Sure it does. I know lots of people that throw thousands at a tractor engine and then decide to sell it. Not. It is usually the opposite - I know someone who was going to get rid of a tractor. They split one of the rear tires so they put new ones on it and kept the tractor.

I DID buy a 1954 Ferguson 30 last summer with a working tach that has 1562 hours on it. I might be gullible, but I'm convinced its correct. The old girl runs really nice. Gem!!

Yeah. Too many guys run a tractor through a car wash, squirt some paint at it, and call it restored.

"Expo Quality" is a term used to impress someone who has just purchased a 10acre hobby farm and now needs a tractor to work it. (Also fits description of steam cleaned and rattle canned!).

Bugs me when I see a tractor advertised as "Fully Restored" and it is the wrong color, supposed to be 6V and has been "upgraded" and has an alternator sticking out the side, implement seat or seat from tractor supply, wrong size or mismatched tires, etc, etc.
