I have a chance to buy a Massey Ferguson to30 in great shape completely redone new tires runs great for $1,100 but I am wanting to get it to move round bails the wt on my round bails are 700- 1000 pounds it comes with the 3 point spear ... would this be a good tractor for the job ?? I have 14 acres and just want for light work and moving hay... thanks for any info

A better reply should come from a MF owner, but years ago I moved round bales with an Oliver 550 and it didn't do too well, made the front end light. Those bales probably were lighter too.

Think 700# is max lift capacity on that tractor and that would make it light on front end as in off ground.

My neighbor uses a very large massey with front loader to move his hay. He uses a brush hog with cement blocks as a ballast weight on 3 pt to keep his rear wheels down.

I would say no.

Not enough tractor for that job, but buy it anyway! Its a bargain, and you can't have too many tractors, no matter what SWMBO tries to tell you!

I move my round bales with a Ferguson TO-20. They are 4x5 bales baled with a Vermeer 554XL. I do have fluid in the front tires though.I have no problems.

Just an FYI. When I was in high school I worked for a dairy farmer that had a TO-30. It would not lift round bales high enough to move them without assistance from a bottle jack and chain from one lift arm to the other. With a Freeman trip bucket loader on it, the front wheels of the tractor were on the ground enough to steer. If the loader wasn't on the tractor the front was so light that you had to steer with the brakes. The TO-30 also does not have live hydraulics or pto. That makes is somewhat less user friendly depending on what you want to do with it.

to light to handle it , e-mail me the phone number and address an I will help the poor guy dispose of it. e-mail is open in classic view. RB

I've seen a 2 wheeled trailer that uses a hand winch for moving bales. If you don't have a lot of bales to move, that might be something to consider pulling with the TO 30. Just on the 3 pt. you'd need counterweight on the front.
