just read the corn & bean spray post. so funny how NO two farmers farm alike!! was lookin at my spray cost sheet for this year, big differance in cost for the same spray across the country.. is seed the same way??

I have a feeling that seed, fertilizer and chemicals vary some but not much. The price difference is what margins the retailer builds into his price. Most retailers buy at about the same price and can price it out the door as they see fit.

My prices per unit were close to the same as Daves.

We are over 400 miles from each other.

Typically, no 2 fields have the same weed problems. Odds are no 2 farmers who post here buy their chemicals from the same source. Different spray rigs.... Different rates of application....etc.

And some people are just simply better/more efficient at their jobs than others. That spills over into just about every phase of farming.

That's why some farmers do well and make a good living while others whine and cry and wonder how the others are making it work.

When I was a kid (Many Years ago) we had a neighbor that was rich....I asked Dad why. He said he was selling when we were buying, an buying when we were selling (cattle). He would plant two weeks early, or two weeks later. During WWII he didn't go to the service and their family bought up a lot of farm land. It would be a crazy world if you all did everything like I do. Ha Ha

If you really want to have a good time, try to get any two of them to agree who has the better system.

Or talk about hay quality with horse people.

Or how to house and care for chickens, the poster child of the backyard farmer.

Soils do vary and past history of sprays make a huge difference fert,bug control and weeds so not everyone uses the same stuff and rate.
