Agco strikes

Just got back from the massey dealer and it cost me $ 151 dollars to return a part I never even picked up. The part was a small 3 to 4 inch machined relief valve used in the multipower shift valve. This valve is used on all masseys with multipower so it isn't a speciality item unique to my MF 165. According to the parts diagram it shows a rod, ball, spring and cap. When I disasembled my valve I didn't find the ball, spring and cap so I took it to the dealer and he thought there were parts missing also. The dealer has only been a Massey dealer for 5 to 6 years and doesn't know the older tractors so we ordered the service kit. The only thing that came in was a machined rod, exactly what I had in my valve.
I asked the dealer to send it back and I would pay the restocking fee of 20% as indicated on the bottom of their bills which would have been 60 dollars on the $300 dollar part.
When he looked it up on the computer he said AGCO only had a partial return which meant i would have to pay 50% (HALF) the cost of the part or a total of ONE HUNDRED FIFTY ONE DOLLARS for NOTHING. I asked the dealer who gets the money and he said AGCO does because they only credit back to the dealer 50%.
If this is the case AGCO really screws their dealers nnd promotes poor customer relations.
Lessons Learned;
Find a salvage yard and look at the parts you need before ordering something new just to verify what the part should consist of.

If ordering new, check on what the cost is to return the item.

Don't expect or hope that your local dealer knows any more about your tractor than you do.

Finally, If you are going to buy equipment new or used and you think you need parts Don't buy if you have to get parts from AGCO.

I think that 20% fee would apply to "in stock" items where they would put it back on their own shelf though wouldn't it?

Think you need to find a better dealer. I ordered some Allis parts from my "local" (which is 140 miles away) Agco dealer and had the same sort of situation, ordered a service kit and it came with nothing that I needed. Dealer said no problem and didn't make me pay a dime and proceeded to order the correct parts and send them to my house instead of having me drive down a second time.

I work parts in an MF dealership, and you need a new dealer!

If you special ordered something on MY recommendation, and it wasn"t what you needed, I would eat it as MY mistake, and chalk it up to the cost of MY "education"! But if you insisted he order it, and it wasn"t what you wanted, then the problem is yours. Even though our invoices says 20% restocking on returns, I have never enforced it. It also says "NO RETURN ON SPECIAL ORDERS". (To me that means I don"t stock it, because there"s no chance I"ll ever need one, but you insisted I get it, even after I tried to talk you out of it! In that case it belongs to you!)

I third the option on you needing another dealer. First off, I have worked at an AGCO dealer for the last 14 years and I do not ever recall seeing such a restock fee. Besides, AGCO has the parts technical department to assist the dealer if he has questions about the part. Also if the illustration is at fault, well that's what claims are for. The customer can easily fill one out and point it out to AGCO that they are at fault. I agree with jwmfarms 100%, if it is my fault the customer would never pay for it. Its crazy but I want my customers to come back again.

AGCO gets a lot of slack on these websites and as far as I can see when someone goes on here with complaints its AGCO's fault about 25% of the time, the rest of it is customer or dealer error. We also sell New Holland, Gehl and Krause and don't think Ive never had a problem with them. They are no better. I will not go into detail but any of these companies anymore lack the proper customer relations that we once had.

We had an AGCO dealer here that was fantastic. The brothers who owned it decided to retire and sold out. Another AGCO dealer bought it out. What a nightmare. They told my BIL his crank shaft was shot on his 8070 and it was NLA. My BIL called me and ask if I could do an internet search for him. First thing I found out from the AGCO web site was that the crank was indeed available new. My BIL had to order it then take this NLA part to the dealer so they could finish rebuilding the engine.

Nope when it's time to replace my one ACGO piece of equipment I'm dropping AGCO.

But according to AGCO he's a great dealer who sells lots of new equipment.

CNH is just as bad I used to try to support my dealer. No more! they never have anything in stock, so it has to be ordered anyway, and ordering on line saves me plenty of time and the shipping is no more than the gas to drive to the dealer and back. I ordered a muffler once that was $475.00 I figured out a way to use one for $75.00 so I paid the restocking charge.

I have had terrible luck with parts from AGCO. Getting parts in a timely fashion is just about impossible and then the price is higher than JD or CIH

I think it is funny how guys ride JD for their parts being so high and talk about how AGCO is so great. Around here it is 100% opposite.

Can't say I am too impressed with JD here im my area, half the time you can't get the counter man to even acknowledge that you are there must less order a part. Took a belt in last time, when he finally looked at it, I told him what it came from etc, he hit like 3 keys then goes nope we don't have that, It was easy to tell he did not key anything into that computer.

JDSeller, not one company is higher price in parts than the other. I used to believe this too. I have learned there is NO consistency in parts pricing. I have a few examples, many standard bearings with lock collars are cheaper through AGCO and are a better quality than CNH, also the CNH bearings come separate from the lock collar and still cost more. Sometimes the bearing will be half the price from CNH. Another one of my favorites is I sell A-C light switches to IH guys. The Agco switch is $29, last time I checked the part from CIH was over $50. The difference between the two? The knob. THERE IS NO CONSISTANCY I PARTS PRICEING!

Also, sometime parts personnel do screw up! They are only human. But for some reason we are given very high expectations to never ever ever do something wrong. It can be a very unforgiving job.

AGCO is not a friendly parts-service company, especially on pre AGCO things.(mid 90s back)If it is an older dealer(A-C will have trouble with MF_OLIVER-MM parts & each with the others)AGCO tech support gets it wrong more often then right if called,so the dealer is kindof on his own.The Heritage Books are the biggest headache of all and some dealers WILL NOT ORDER from them.CIH isn't much better on the CASE parts end unless you have a older dealer that will work(dig)into it as CIH leaves a lot to guess on.
