What I learned today.

Shouldn't the ingredient list on a carton of milk
just say milk? Go to the frig and take a look on
your milk jug. The particular one I am looking at
has 8 items in the ingredient list. And then get
this--it has a special warning saying this product
contains milk. I kid you not. What the hell.

definitely not the same stuff that comes from the cow's teat. any thing from the store is not the same as straight off the farm.
and I don't drink milk either, never have since being weined.

LOL.....maybe I would be more worried if it didn't list milk. You really wonder sometimes don't you?

Could be preservatives and homogenizing agents? I can only drink lactose free milk, so how do they get rid of the lactose? It tastes like regular milk to me. I have one glass every morning with my cereal. Jim

It"s interesting to note that milk from cows not treated with rsbt has the same amount of rsbt (naturally occurring) as found in milk from cows who are rsbt treated.

And it is also interesting that naturally occurring insulin-like growth factor 1; the stuff BST increases in cows to make them give more milk; is the same insulin-like growth factor 1 found in humans.

Its not that the rsbt does anything to hurt humans.
It is that rsbt makes a cows metabolism work over time so much so that it shortens the working life of the cow. Plum wears them out.
Makes them no more than a milk making machine.
Have we come to the point where animals should be nothing more than cold steel machines.

But now we are getting way off topic.

I remember the controversy when it first came out- I milked 70 cows then so naturally followed the pros and cons. Should be given to the better cows, get about 15% increase in production. I didn"t like the administration route- giving more shots, timing, more bookkeeping, etc. Had enough to keep up with the 6 month immunizations for a handful of diseases. What bugged me was the advertising for rbst-free....when there is no test for that...all milk naturally contains the same amount. Advertisers conning gullible consumers, charging more for the same product.

OT- quit dairy in "01, certainly didn"t miss livestock this MN winter, but enjoyed our trip to your State in mid-Jan!! "nawleans ice storm not withstanding.

It's no different than reading the warning label on a package of peanuts! "WARNING!...this product was packaged in a facility that packages peanuts".....well DUH!!

Id like to know where this rash of peanut allergies came from, 20 years ago I never heard of this crap when I was in school, now days the kids can't bring anything to school that may have been within 20 feet of a peanut! There was always a tray of bread with peanut butter on it in the lunch line at my school!

Agree. I was on a Delta flight last week where a woman was coming down the aisle prior to takeoff with a distressed look on her face saying "peanut allergy". Wasn't sure if it was her or the baby she was carrying. But.... I don't think you could EVER get all the peanut fragments out of the seats, back pockets, carpets of a commercial airliner. Maybe she should have gone Amtrak or Greyhound but then, again, no guarantee she sits in a "peanut free" seat on a bus or train either.

Oops, shouldn't say that too loud or external_link will start mandating "peanut free" planes and next thing you know, peanuts will be banned nationwide. Not belittling people with various allergies, I know they can be dangerous, but there is a point where it is THEIR responsibility, not the public's, to deal with their problem.

What I learned a few years back was about most milk you buy in the stores,"ULTRA pasteurized milk". I won't go into what that means and if you're interested, do a google search and see what that means.
I always wondered why in Mexico they don't refrigerate most of their milk. It's ultra pasteurized and doesn't need to be refrigerated and has a loooooong shelf life. So I guess that means it's about like water.
It's hard to find milk in the stores that isn't ultra pasteurized.
So I guess if you buy a jug of ultra pasteurized milk and it sits in a hot car for several hours, it's still ok.
Read up on it and see what you find about ultra pasteurized milk, I think you'll be amazed.

My milk has been goats milk for 58 years, 100%. I can not nor have ever been able to drink cows milk. I know where mine comes from and what is in it, I squeeze it twice a day....James
