O. T. rebuilding impact gun?

Any body try & rebuild an impact gun? I have a Ingersoll rand 231.Fairly common one in1/2" when you hook up air hose it leaks I thought it was the coupler fitting changed that out with a known good one still leaks . Any idaes?

I've rebuilt 2135 ingersol rand guns, pretty simple once you get them apart, usually it don't take much to get them working, when I put back together I always lightly oil the parts.

I have done a few. They are pretty simple. I you have a leak all the time look at the spring and trigger vave. If you have the US built IR gun make sure the three Allen bolts are tight that hold the gun together. These are famous for coming loose and the gun will leak air bad and have no power when you pull the trigger.

I like mine, the triggers get gummy or dirt in them and stop returning to OFF but are not on enough to rotate. Simple inside, take it apart.clean it and put it together with air tool lube. I use a lubricator on the hose to mine. Jim

Most air tools, in general, are pretty easy to rebuild. One thing I usually do, especially on impacts, is to use a little blue thread locker on the bolts holding the tool together.

I have a local service center that rebuilts all kinds of tools. I would go there for their advice and they order the parts, give advice on how to fix it too.

The 231 is probably the easiest impact to work on. If the leak is your only problem, all you have to do is remove the big nut where the air fitting is. Under it is a conical spring, which may be rusted to pieces. Under that is a small aluminum valve button with an o-ring on it. That o-ring is probably split. Also make sure the rod that the valve fits over is moving smoothly. No need to dig into the gun any further.
