Do cats control their tails like we control our hands and legs, or does the tail just automatically react to emotions like our heart does??? Half the time it seems like the tail is a completely different body!! Bryce

Yeah - I've wondered about cat's tails - you watch one trying to sneak up on a bird, cautious and quiet, and the tail is switching - a dead givaway. Something the Maker built in to balance the odds, maybe?

Pretty sure they control it. Mine will sit on my lap and slap hers down like she just dares me to try to grab it. If it do,she'll turn and grab my hand. I think she's using it for bait.

lol i think its connected to its emotions, if your watch one, if its sitting and thinking about something, the tail maybe even the last few inches of it sweeps back and forth slowly and smoothly, if its stalking and excited it seems to move in short jerky movements, if the cat is mad it swipes rapidly back and forth like a whip , it serves to let humans know the cats mood when you approach it, saves on clawings

The other and I have this conversation every night after dinner. I hear all about how wonderful it would be to have a tail like that to smack around. My life would be one smack in the face to the next.

We've got a cat in the house that uses that thing like a mood ring. It doesn't help that she has about 13 personalities living in her head.

I figure it's like goosebumps or the hair on a dog's back.

A friend had their cat fixed, the vet said it went a bit too deep into anesthesia and might've gotten brain damaged. Friend asked how could he tell if the cat has brain damage?
