If a man had the money and time and wanted to restore a 70 s model large 4 wheel drive tractor what model would you guys pick. I have found pretty nice white 4/180 decent MF 1805 and a couple of case 2470/2670. I really would like an ac 7580 but have not ran across one yet. Have no interest in JD,Ih or steiger. Anyone know of a large AC for sale? Looking at next winters project.

Problem is probably neither one of those sold in the entire state. Just never was many oliver or Mms in this parts. Then add the 4 wheel drive version and doubt that I could find one within 500 miles. I want something with partial power shift.

I know it won't do you any good, but I have to go with the Oliver 2655. They're one sweet machine.

Since you mentioned the big Massey, how about a McConnell-Marc? That was the company that took over production of those tractors after Massey stopped building them in the Brantford Ontario combine plant. After a few years production as the McConnell-Marc,Agco bought them, updated them and sold them as the Agco Star.

I have a 1200 3-1470's and a 2670 Case units, I still use mine now but some day may shine them up a bit for me now though they still earn their keep

I kinda like the case but was told to stay away from the larger one because of the scandi engine. Have never been around one but have found some 2470s and 2670 up in the Midwest. Still going to have to travel 700+ miles but may try one.

I'm with the Case guys in that there were a lot of them sold and a lot left out there AND bang for your buck you won't do any better. Too big for collectors and too little/unrefined for farmers.

I thru the white in there because I knew about it but finding an oliver in these parts would be like trying to find the needel in the hay stack.
I,ve told you before but you just can not believe how few Olivers were sold around here..Like none If you were farming with an oliver the kids would be talking about your dad fixing to go to the poor house. LOL

I could go along with an old Case too if it was a 1200. My uncle bought one of those after they came out. I never knew just what the whole story was,but he bought an IH 4100 over the winter and never took it to the field. It disappeared and the 1200 took its place.

Get a older Versatile 836 it has the old Cummins 855 best engine built. Stay away with one with the V-8. Older 4wd with powershift can get a bit pricey to restore. Also in Case only the biggest Case 2870 had the swede engine, lower power ones had the Case 504-Great engine. 1200 and 1470 Case had gear trans.

I think there is still an old Allis for sale in Rushville NE. I would love to have had one back in the day, but now, I would go with the Case, more because I only own Case tractors now. Back 25 years ago, I was almost all Allis.

I've only seen one of those Allis Chalmers 4 wh. with 2 mufflers one in front of the other in this area (w.c. Ohio). It wasn't too long ago. Don't know if it's still there or for sale.

I just googled 'allis chalmers 7580' and found 4 or 5 for sale. All those have a single exhaust. Which model had twin exhausts?

I remember sitting on a 1200 without a cab years ago. I thought they were kind of neat....of course I hadn't really sat on a 4wd much before that either. Nice looking machines you have there.

They do have a partial powershift, not sure if they have the over/under or ampli torque, might be the ampli torque since they are MM tractor, not sure though.

I liked the 7580, never saw one of its replacements in person.

I know where there's a 7580 that needs an engine you could probably buy for a song, it's 45 minutes south of North Platte.

The 440 Allis I think you'll find was was the repainted Steiger.

Get me an e-mail ,phone number or something. My e-mail is open I am interested...big time

I'm not even sure the owner's name, I go by it breaking ice. It's been there for a long time, he got the engine out and hasn't touched it since. It's entirely possible it's been sitting there for 10 years, but at least it's a dry climate. It would be a project.

That is neat looking. I miss the styling tractors had years ago....they all look like...blah now days.

I have a 1995 9230. Three years ago I thought the trans. was going out and they said it would be 15,000 plus labor, but thankfully it just needed the pump shimmed up and now it works perfectly. A good Case mechanic will tell you the powershift on the 9000 series is the weakest point. Two years ago I took it in to CIH for a tune up. They have to remove the intake manifold to ck the injectors . It was in Dec. and the mechanic working on it took a three wk vac. So the manifold just lay on the floor. He came back to work in Jan. put it all together. They went out and drove it to test it and as they wehere idling it ,it went to ponding and raddling. I went in the next day to pay my bill and get my tractor. They said we have good news and bad news. What’s the good news I asked. –everthing I wanted done was done OK. The bad news. A bolt went into no 1 cyld and did a job on it. I thought OH NO more expense. They said we will put a new sleeve and piston in no 1 and it will be ok. Whew! No cost to me. Went back in a couple of days later and in the shop my engine was out and every pc. Lying all over the floor. I said WHAT! They then old me they were going to rebuild the engine . all new sleeves and pistons head reworked . all I had to pay for was a new thurbo. As they said mine had some wear and with the new engine should have it. That was at 3800 hrs. I now have 5000 hrs. and it’s in the shop for another tune up. I am thinking of Selling it as it it in A-1 shape . new tires at 4200hrs so I should get top Dollar. Haven’t decided what price to go with yet.

The boss bought a 9250 last year, at the time they told him they had gone through the transmission and rebuilt it all. Yeah, gone through and one clutch pack replaced. Didn't have 100 hours on it strip-tilling and the next clutch pack went out, lost gears 3,6,9,12. It finally came back 2 weeks ago and is supposed to have a fully rebuilt transmission.

That's why I know that. The boss was thinking briefly of dropping a reman transmission in ourselves. Briefly. Dealer he got it from ended up rebuilding it on their dime.

Our mechanic used to work for a CIH dealer, they had a lot of transmission troubles come in from seed corn growers. Case sent someone out to go through the transmissions and go out and see how the tractors were getting used.

They wouldn't even back the throttle off going down hill, no brakes, just let it overspeed. They were getting going so fast that the disengaged clutch packs were slinging all the oil out of themselves and running dry, burning up the friction plates.
