I remember seeing still pictures one time of something similar in Farm Journal or someplace. Some college has built a contraption to drop feed to cows at a certain interval or something for some kind of testing. There was an exposed chain and sprocket and the cow would reach up and turn the sprocket to get feed whenever she wanted it.

We had them do something similar in the milking parlour, only it was expensive meal! One night they got the door opened and just about filled every trough with meal. They had gorged until they were sick!

i used to have chickens that knew to peck at the pig water nipples to get water, i set one up for the chickens we have now and i only seen one pecking at it.

That is a cool video. I used to have a hereford cow that would always close a gate for me after I would come in the barn to feed her. She was a sweetheart of a cow. I would purposely leave the gate open to see what she would do. And she would always push it shut behind me with her head.
