Ford 8600 Transmission

The tractor will not go into high or low. I can
move the arm on the side of the transmission , in
and out (not supposed to happen), and also back and
forth (its normal range of motion). Anybody know
what has happened?

It sounds like the finger must have come off the shaft on the inside. It is not that tough to open up and check out and replace. It will give you the opportunity to clean the magnet on the inside of the cover, and if anything like mine to clean a half inch of sludge off the bottom.

You're saying "split" the tractor or is there a plate that I can get

All you need to do is remove the round plate on the right side where the lever is on the shaft.
