I have been very busy lately with my hedgecutting business which has to be finished, by law, on 1st March. I then got to head off to a tractor show in Malvern, England, near to the border with Wales. This time I sailed with some friends from the Republic of Ireland and travelled from Dublin to Holyhead in Anglesey, Wales. This is the type of ferry boat we use...

First view of Holyhead.....The sky was a bit grey at 11.30 am but it turned out a fine warm spring day

The motorway across North Wales, Wales is very mountainous....

It is so rocky that the road has to go through the rock in places!

Looking across the bay towards England....

We called in to a few tractor collections and dealers on the way down.....By the time we were near our hotel in Worcester the sun was setting....

I will post pics of the collections and auction later.....watch this space.................Sam

Sam, you are in my old stomping ground... i grew up
near Ross-on-Wye, about 30 odd minutes drive from
Malvern! Have a great time at the show!

Thanks for pics Sam.
Last time I was in Wales was 1983. I was serving in the USN. Crossing the North Atlantic was first and only time I got sea sick.

Loved the country and spent time with some friends of the family while there.

Very pretty county, but I'm curious about the hedge cutting. What type of hedges are they? Privet hedges here are a total pest and the seeds are spread by birds. Why should the cutting be ended by Mar. 1? Are these decorative hedges?

Ven yo get to whales and you see Josephine Roberts, tell her that the articles I read in Farm Collector magazine are interesting.
Remember: May all your roads be paved vith good intentions,
May the vind always be at your back.
Pray that yo are in heaven a half hour before the devil knows that yo are dead.
If yo vant to have good neighbors, be a good neighbor.
This is the first day of the rest of your life.

KEH, our country is a patchwork of small fields surrounded with native hedges. We have to cut them back or they take over the fields. Most farmers like to do them annually. I am a hedgecutting contractor(custom cutter!) We have to finish as directed by European law by 1st March just in case we destroy any bird's nests and annoy any tree huggers!
OJ you left a very nice part of the World over there in Herefordshire!
Nice but very wet this year! We couldn't believe how wet it was at the showgrounds!

Great pictures Sam. The rock cuts look similar to northern Ontario about 3-4 hrs from me. How long (time) is the ferry trip from Ireland to England?

Tech 7....From Dublin to Wales is 3 1/2 hours.....from Belfast to Birkenhead/Liverpool, England is 8 1/2 hours and from Belfast, Northern Ireland to Cairnryan, Scotland is 2 1/2 hours. crossing time. Each route has multiple sailings every day.

Sam, Malvern show grounds are either a mud pool or a sun baked desert!, there doesn't seem to be any moderation there... lol.

Thanks for the pictures!

Blackthorn, hawthorn, ash, oak, sycamore, hazel, elder, beech, whin, briars and plenty of other rubbish! But it keeps me busy!
