John Deere 60 with flare box wagon, don't remember any
decals on the tractor , just guessing it was a 60 from the time
period.

Tha furst one I remember is an model "A" John Deere that had a driver on it. Dat vas back in the middle 1940s.

Still got one of the firsts, has a lot of 'hours'
on it ... lol

The first toy tractor I ever had was a used made by tonka (tractor). I think it was a catapiller dozer which I got from my older brother. A new tractor toy I first got was a Ford 9N and it was a match box collection coast about 65 cents. I bought it with my birthday money.

That I remember? Shoot,I got this one when I was 18 months old. I've still got it. Must have ridden that thing a million miles, but for the life of me I don't remember that Christmas.
I do remember getting this John Deere 620 a year later though. I got all the tools with it. I can remember opening all those yellow and green boxes and pulling those toys out just like it was yesterday.

I got one of those too. Mine was in a set in the barn box. It came with a three bottom plow and a two wheeled trailer with two yellow crates of chickens on it. I remember the day Craig Frisbee came over and broke those crates in to a thousand pieces.

1st one I remember was a Farmall I seen when I was bout 16 or 17, No kids had them round here that I know of.

Almost worthless photo, first was a plastic Farmall, (dad fixed the front wheels I broke off) along with a cast Massey 44 and a Massey self propelled combine.
a147727.jpg

I got a John Deere like this 1520 when I was a boy. I've got the real one now. I also remember getting a 4WD 4230?, baler, and hayrack when my dad bought a new 327 JD baler. I still use the real baler. Sadly I lost the toys in a house fire. I was a lucky kid as my dad collected toys. My brothers and I had a lot of them. Mostly JD because that is the dealer we had around here.

(quoted from post at 14:06:45 03/02/14) Sundays feature afteroon/night is by Bill OHIO ,,,,He asks,,,,,what is your first toy tractor you remember and what make was it?

I was told by my parents that I had a John Deere and flare wagon and I threw them down the outhouse hole....nobody retrieved them.

I cant remember which one was first....An MM G1000 Vista, or a 1030 Case. The Case I got when I was in the hospital in 1974. I can still remember the detail on the injector lines and the sleek lines of the hood. Later my brother and I put duals on both of them, also made the MM into an MF....what were we thinking lol.

Does Tonka qualify as a brand?

I had a three part set, a concrete truck, a single-axle dump truck, and an articulated loader (tractor).

Still have it, but the this generation of nephews have outgrown them. The toys are ready for yet another go around.

D.

John Deere 20 pedal tractor. Left it in the drive way and dad backed over it, still remember that day and the awful feeling I had.

First one I remember wasn't a tractor but a Nylint Michigan truck crane with the clamshell bucket. Got it for Christmas when I was around 7 years old. Always played with it and a Tonka dump truck in the dirt driveway at the old house were I grew up. My father was always getting on me about leaving them there said somebody was going to run over them. Dad left for work one morning well before daylight and backed right over the crane with his old Ford pickup. Wasn't much left. All I got was one those I told you so looks. Never did get another one but got a few more toy trucks and tractors over the years. Found one of the truck cranes at an auction last year knew I was going to bid whatever it took to get it. My father saw it a few months ago and laughed. Said it took you 45 years to get another one didn't it

Had a Marx wind up dozer that made sparks or
something like it. Pedal tractor passed down from
older brothers JD? then some sandbox dozers Hubley
I think. Dad had dozers so we did too.

My first toy tractor was one my dad made for me. It was made as a pedal tractor, but the pedals were too hard for me to turn, so he took the pedals off and I drove it Flintstone style. It was painted to look like my dad's Massey 30, but as I got older I wanted it to look like the neighbour's John Deere 3010, so it got repainted green. I had trailers that I used to back under the dining room table and park them there. (My mother was very understanding)I still have the metal pieces, and there is enough of the wood left to copy.
The other toy that I miss was a 1/16 scale JD 3020 with metal wheels that I got for Christmas one year. It's hard to say which one of them got more miles, I did my best to wear them both out

its not a tractor, but a steam engine??My older brother had one,he wouldnt let me play with it,I Showed him! I Bought one when I was 50,,,lol

Ok I want one of those!! I work with steam every day at my job. It fascinates the heck out of me. I can stand next to a running 40 megawatt steam generator and just marvel at how it works. Every time they open one up for maintenance they call me to come look at it!

I had one of those too. My two older brothers and I each got one for Christmas one year. Bob's was yellow and mine and Jim's were gray.

My older brother had one of those too. I don't remember the smoke stack on the one he had but maybe I lost it lol..or he did, I don't remember. I remember the little "squares" of fuel for it.

Were those the ones that looked like the 20 series (3020 4020s)? I had one of those. I think dad bought it for $7.00 It was in a heap and needed work. I remember he bought one new front tire for it for $4.00 I made implements for it and wore the tractor out.

Since Dad worked at IH Dealer all his life of course my first toy tractor is a cast iron Farmall M in 1941, the year I was born.73 years old and well used and worn. Several repairs by Dad with acetelyne welder. All rubber rear tires have large freeze plugs installed in center of tires to make up for large holes worn in all rubber rear tires by axle from so much play time.

Still have it and always will have it with instructions to Daughter that it goes to my Grandson along with Cast Iron K model IH Pickup that is also 1941 model.

My cousin had one of those blue Fords (?) with the yellow wheels. I haven't seen that one in years.

Me as well. Then a pinkish plastic Hubley with yellow wheels, Kind of generic farmallish thing about 3 inches long. with a hitch!! Jim

I had a 4440 and flair wagon but grandpa saw to it EVERYTHING else was IH - even the grain truck with clip on cattle racks. I spent hours pulling the disk across the floor.

The one I remember was one nobody was allowed to play with. It was an 856 just like the one we farmed with, although the real "Big Red" was a wheatland. The toy sat on a shelf in the porch. I always thought it was odd that it had a white seat when all of my other IH models had a black seat. I can hardly believe that I had hands small enough to fit through the back can window to "drive" them.

An Ertl John Deere 'A' from the 1947-1948 time frame. Bought at the Indiana State Fair for $1.50.

I guess I have to mention a (Probably Arcade or Vindex) team of horses hooked to either a wagon or a manure spreader. Had that in the early '40s when I was 4 or 5 - broke it up with a hammer, got a good spanking for that trick.

When very young had a Farmall and it wasn't even plastic. Very light weight, but didn't survive the coaster wagon crash. Then in 51 dad bought a new WD Allis and little sister got the toy tractor to match it. I put some miles on it though. Also had a dozer like Floldford showed only mine was yellow.

Mine was like the John Deere on the left in Brendan Warrens photo, around 1950. I still have it, restored it once and son and friends did not do it any favors, needs work again.

International, I believe a 340, narrow front, 1/16 scale. It was
purchased at the U of MN hospital gift shop. I was 3 years
old, and the gift shop was closed. My dad was there for an
extensive surgery, so I was living with my grandparents while
mom was staying at the hospital with my dad. I saw the
tractor through the window, and asked the first person I saw
to help me get that tractor. Turns out that first person was a
high ranking surgeon who was passing by. She said she
would find someone to open the shop so I could get that
tractor. I don't know if my grandparents were real pleased
with my boldness, but at that point what could they say?
They bought me that tractor and it had many, many miles put
on it in my younger years.

The first I remember having was a pair of used ones...hand me downs from Cousin"s; Ertl IH 460 and a JD 630.
My first new one was an Ertl IH 340; used to get a new one every year when my Parents took us to NYS Fair

I had a crawler like that when I was around 5 or 6. Didn't take me long to get the wind up motor out of it so I could push it around where I wanted it to go!

It was a case 930 that I won at a dealer open house. Ran that
along with an ih square baler lots of hours around the house.
Even had the little green plastic bales.

Eldon, wasn't it Ole who dropped a quarter in the outhouse hole? He looked in there a moment, then proceeded to pull out his wallet and threw it in too. Somebody asked, Ole! What are you doing?
He says. You don't think I'm going down there for just 25 cents do you?

My first farm toy that I remember having sits next to my easy chair today. Survived many hours of plowing with a hoe handle propped into the seat and plowing the garden. Survived myself, 4 sisters and 3 cousins then my own two children.

Hey Larry, I couldn't find your post asking for suggestions, so here's mine: Show your home made tools.

For sure. We had several eventually and made baling wire mowers and spike drags, and other implements for the sand box. Some came with backward tread pattern on one wheel (irritating!!)
Jim

Obviously no pics but it was around '63 0r '64 and was a narrow front 1800 "checkerboard" Oliver. Those were my favorite tractors back then . All steel accept for rubber tires. Don't know brand.

My first one was a 1600 Oliver with narrow front. They tell me I would't go any where with out it. Couldn't find the picture of me with it.

I never had a toy tractor. Had to make my own toys. My son, who is now 35 had an IH 2+2 as a first toy tractor. Jim

first one I really remember getting was a 1/16 scale Case Magnum. had duals on it. Don't remember the model, but it was a limited edition one. Still have it somewhere. No longer has duals because one side of the axle got bent I think so Dad gave it singles. I drove the heck out of it. I had others already, but that's the first one I really remember getting. I had TONS of 1/16 scale and even more 1/64 scale tractors.

i still have it a Slik toy supposed to look like an Oliver 70.
i can't remember not having it.
if i remember story right i was maybe 1 year old when my uncle Oliver gave it to me for Christmas.
it shows lots of use i no idea how many sets of tires it has had on it.

My first toy tractor is an Arcade cast iron, Allis Chalmers with a 2 wheeled dirt hauler cart . Hooked together with two arches to the tractor drawbar. That rig was 75 years old last Christmas. Got it for my first B day. Parents got it at the Wis. state fair in 1937.
It still has all 6 original wheels . Hauled a 1/2 millions tons of dirt with it. Has been painted many different colors over time, but is orange now.
clint.

Wow!!! That was a long time ago, but from what I can remember and what my mother has told me it was a John Deere 7020, I got pi$$ed at her at nap time and threw it off the top bunk of my bunk bed. Now that I'm older I wish I had that tractor back and naps are the best thing ever!!

The first toy tractor That I had was a sandbox toy crawler tractor that I built when I was about ten. I used two pieces of 2x4 and cut out the seat, used wooden spools that held sewing thread for sprockets and rollers and a double row of bicycle chain on each side for tracks. (Sorry, photos not available.)

I had a pedal tractor from Western Auto. I must have plowed a million acres with that thing. It was yellow with a white "motor" so I'm thinking perhaps a Minneapolis Moline.

I didn't get any toy tractors until I was in my early 30's. My first toys were Hubbley & Smith Miller tractor trailer trucks and several pieces of Doepke heavy equipment ( motor scraper and a dump bottom Euclid).

John Deere titan combine with grain head my
brother got a 485o . My dad got the dealer to
throw em in when he bought a brand new 4850 with
mfwd
