Pronounced the same. Worcester Mass was settled by people from Worcester, England. Worcester New York was settled by people from Worcester, Mass. Pronounced "wooster."

People tend to bring names with them when moving on to new and cheaper lands.

Same thing in northern Michigan. Much was settled by New Yorkers (who also built the Mac Bridge). I near Otsego County Michigan right now - named after Otsego County, NY.
