This looks like it would be a beast in the fields!

Ya,you could put a loader on it,they had a pretty good frame. I think those old gals proved to be a pretty decent old tractor. I don't know if it would bring quite that much on an auction, but it's not outrageous.

Everybody says CaseIH still services them, yes. They sold a fair number of 885s and 1210s around here.

it is a case david brown a lot of case parts will interchange case bought david brown out and combined the tractors I have a 1410 good tractor
The price is not to bad the tractor looks to be in good shape

Yes case services them. A friend of mine has had one for
years, he also had a 885? I think. Both are very handy
tractors. I know he gets parts, filters etc from the local case IH
dealer, they're not really a orphan.

Were the David Brown tractors the same as the Agri Tractors that Menards sold years ago?

gwstang, they are a good old tractor .We have one that was bought new here and has never left.It will either have a 6 or 12 speed transmission. They are about the cheepest thing on fuel in that hp range I have ever run.Just make sure the injection pump was serviced regular you had to change the oil in those like the engine.Ours has leaked fuel internally since it was almost new therefore we changed it alot when we used to use it regular. We have wore ours out twice and now just does odd jobs.It was the big and main tractor for a short while when it was new.It ran the bailer for years and years before we got a thrower, with me loading and my grandma driving old David. To this day everytime I go in the shed I can still see her sitting on it smiling.

I doubt it. Tenneco bought them out and merged them with Case.
Interesting history of them. They had a dealer network in Canada, but not in the US. From 61 to 63 they painted them green and sold them through Oliver dealers here. Ford,in their infinite wisdom decided it would be best to close their branch houses and have dealers order directly from the factory. David Brown bought seven of the nine Ford branch houses and established their own dealer network and sold their own tractor instead of selling them as Olivers.

First off, they were a good-very good tractor.Talk to a(some)CIH dealer to check about parts-service.Our area, they were sold by ex Ferguson dealers and when Case bought DB,that was the end of the tractors because some Case dealers refused to sell them.(Imported)Same with other brands dealers also on the imported tractors back then.

No, the Agri Powers were made by Fiat in Argentina, I have three of them. Models I have are 7000, 8000, and 9000. The 7000 and 9000 my neighbor and I tractor pull with. You are right, from a distance they look a lot like David Brown tractors, but the engines are larger.

That's a decent deal, but not a barn-burner deal. I'd look hard for a tractor with loader already on it, unless you already have a loader that will fit. Buying the bare tractor, then finding a loader and adapting it, you'll probably have more $$$ into it than you could have bought a suitable tractor with loader already on- and save yourself the hassle.

I farmed in a partnership for 3 years with a man
who owned a DB 1200. Absolutely the worst tractor
I ever have been around. Awkward handling,
frequently broke down and expensive to repair. My
well worn Ford 5000 and his D14 Allis were used for
90% or more of the work on the farm. A friend had 2
Belarus tractors and as bad as they are considered
by most people, I would rank them ahead of that
David Brown.

like a lot of things there a pretty good machine, my uncle had a david brown on the place for 20 years, it was just used as a loader tractor to clean steer pens, now days depending on where you live parts may be a real issue if you break something

From esperience they are good tractors. My Dads first cousin sold AC, New Holland and some short line equipment. He took on DB in 1968. My family traded an Oliver 88 for a DB 990 with Kelley loader, an Oliver 77 for a DB 1200 and an Oliver S55 for a DB 770 with Kelley loader. These tractors were tough, easy on fuel and comfortable. If this 1200 is in good shape I think it is a good deal. Green paint that age and hp will cost you more than double.

40 years ago our local dealer was the largest volume dealer of David Brown tractors. There was one on at least every other farm in our township. Yes they were cheap to buy, tough no frills tractor. They had a one of a kind hydraulic system and featured Lucas (AKA the prince of darkness) electrical equipment.
I think one of the reasons you dont't see many around still is due to the Case/Tenneco buyout that eliminated a lot of parts and dealer support.
I believe that the start of my hearing loss is due to sitting on a 990 for many hours with those square cut transmission gears howling away under the seat.

I couldn't open the ad, but from the replies it
sounds like it's a David Brown. We have an 880 -
it's a good running tractor, and it's great on
fuel. I've been able to get any parts we need from
our Case IH dealer. It's a bit of a quirky tractor,
but so far it's worked well for us.
Pete

Well, the fellow must have sold it right quick as he has deleted the add for it. Thanks for the comments fellows.
