I sold my first tractor it was a oliver 70 puller my grandpa and I biult when I was about 10 or 11 my grandpa sold his 70 puller to a guy through antque power mag. the guy asked about mine and that is when I made my big regret about 15 years a go I wish I could find her all I know is they went from WI to MO I did buy my great uncal's 30-6 remington with some of the money and will give it to my son when he gets older

Yes!!! (but not all of them) had a tough-as-nails 806 diesel. Sold it after having it 21 years. Regret it to this day. Saw it at a dealer last year. What had become of the old Girl turned my stomach.

Oh God yes. I felt like I was loosing my mind when I traded my 4040 Deere off. I bought that one brand new just before our oldest son was born. I didn't feel too bad until I told everybody that night that I traded it off. Everybody was just kind of quiet and looked hurt.

That one was the worst, but there have been plenty of others. I had a Deere 730 diesel electric start that I wish I'd have kept for a collector tractor.
I really regret selling the Oliver 77 that I drove home from Archbold Ohio and the 88 diesel that I bought down there. I got rid of what was left of Dad's 66. We had taken the motor out of it and put it in a Super 55 with a cracked head.
I traded a Super 55 off on a 1550,wish I'd have kept that and paid full price for the 1550.
I've said many a time that I'd never get rid of another tractor,but........I'm working on a deal to trade the last Deere that I have for another Oliver,so I guess that's a promise to myself that I won't keep.

I had an AC 170 diesel, low hours, nice shape. I bought it cheap because the old fellow had left water in it and the block had a little crack. I constantly patched and ran it for a few years. Carried a water jug on the tractor.

I was working with my father then, and I traded the 170 towards a new tractor that we bought together. It worked out OK. But, with hindsight, it was a mistake.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have searched around for another Perkins engine, as they are everywhere, not just with AC. And I would still have that handy little tractor.

I regret selling some when I see others bring twice what I could get for mine.

I have regretted buying several too !

My 'restored' F-20;the 1026;and the JD730 electric start diesel(I started farming with that tractor). There are others as well.Acctually,I kinda regret selling any tractor.....The tractor I dont miss is the JD 4040 I bought new in '80.

YESSSSSSSS But I was in the business of tractor dealing and was young and needed to make money and if a profit was there I SOLD

I regret selling my IH 340 crawler dozer. That thing never let me down when I need a little muscle around the properties.

Yes. I definitely regret having to trade in this 930 Case back when I needed the cash to buy the 2090 Case. I only had the 930 for about 5 years but I still dream about driving it. You don't see many of them around anymore.

Farmed in the early 70's with an Oliver 1950T, 880 diesel and a 77 that I had rebuilt the engine on.

Wasn't a collector then...I regretselling them all!

Not a tractor, but I regret selling my 1962 Crysler with the push button transmission and 360 V8 engine. Sure wish I could have kept it, but needed the money back then.

My brother kept his 400D, 930 and 1030 when he retired. 400D is his yard mowing tractor now; 930 is the loader tractor and the 1030 is the snow blower tractor. They have an easy life now.

Oliver 880 diesel. That ol' gal would just sing, when I was pulling a 14' disk. Don't really have a use for it now, but I just loved those 6 cyl. Olivers at combat speed.

I regret selling my JD 330 even if I did clear a pile of money on it. My friend that helped me fix my tractors up had just died from a heart attack and I had lost some interest in the old JD's but now I'm back into fixing them up. The doctor I sold it to had it fixed up and it looks great.

This one. My youngest son who is driving in the pic did all the grunt work to clean it up and paint it. We both regret letting it go. He's 25 years old now and we are looking for another to do together to replace it.

I've always regretted selling a 4490 I had. It had a lot of hours when I bought it, I got worried about expensive repairs even though it worked good. I sold it for more than I paid for it but I still miss that thing.

Only thing i regret selling was my 1954 Norton 500 cc twin Dominator motorcycle i bought in 63 for $25.
Sold it for a thou in 80.
prob worth 8 times that today.

Should have put my H in the sale and kept the 300 out of it. Also wish I had $5000 the day of the sale, we had a 1066 that was quickly climbing past 170 HP at a high idle on the dyno when the JD mechanic cut it out. It went for a whopping $4500.

Just curious Steve. What was your complaint with your 4040? Maybe I was just too emotionally attached to mine. Not saying I never had to have it worked on,but it was a nimble, handy tractor.

In 1980 I bought a late 770 Oliver(square fenders, alternator, hydrostatic steering, TA etc.) from a widow lady, one owner 1700 hours, absolutely like brand new, used it one summer and let my cousin talk me out of it. I went looking for something with a 3 pt. he run the snot out of that tractor on his dairy operation until about 10 years ago and had a retirement auction, I sold it to him for $2500 and It brought $4800 at the auction with 8000 hours and looked kind of tough.

Dad bought a new 4020 with cab in 1968,he liked it so well one week later he bought a second used one.In 1972 he had farm sale so he could come up with down payment money for a farm he bought. The neighbor tried to talk him out of selling it but dad would not listen. The neighbor bought it and the next day Dad tried to buy it back.Dad had several other new tractors but he always wished he would have kept that 4020.I was able to buy it last fall at the neighbors sale but Dad died twelve years ago.

When I started farming I bought a good 3020 diesel but it had a clutch problem. The clutch was either in or out. I got tired of it and sold it and bought a 2510 diesel(I still have) and a 45 combine.I should have split it and fixed the clutch but it was before I had as much experience as I do now and everyone said it would cost a pile of money to fix.Today if I have the parts on hand I can do a 3020 clutch in one day.

Yup, most of them. Pretty much before they got to the end of the driveway. The one I really wish I still had is the IH 826. Nice tractor. Just didn't need it and was making payments.

JD 630. Even my wife said she wished I had not sold that tractor. It sounded so nice it just made you weak-kneed to listen to it. Paul

I bought a really nice gas Minneapolis Moline G850. Used too much gas so I sold it, always said if I found a diesel it would be here to stay. I found and bought a G850 diesel, also very nice. Needed some money one spring and sold it too. They were both very nice tractors.

I regretted letting my folks sell my Grandfathers 8N when he moved in with them. I didn't care much for his Super A back then. But a decade later I bought a Super A--sold it to my father then he sold it for a Ford 601. Still a decade later I look back and that Super A is the tractor we should have kept. The add on 3pt hitch combined with independent front and rear live hydraulics including down pressure took a nice row crop tractor and made it it wonderful utility tractor as well.

I traded my G-dad's MT on a 2520D in 1970. Wish I knew where it went- the dealer retired some 25 years ago, and it was in perfect shape with a set of workers and an M-2 plow. I'd love to have it back to play with.

I sold dad. W.F.E. Ca allis. Front end loader. Hated that thing when dad use it for cutting hay. When I got a lot older love driving it. Got laid off. And needed the money. Thing never had brake . And my ground is all hilly. Almost got me twice figure it need to go. Someone all ready died on this tractor. Some one wearing a coon skin coat. Got wadded up in the pto. But I sold it to my brother. We laugh about the day he put the forks on the bucket. Throw dads front door. LOL

No.
Every time I sold a tractor I was able to use the $ and get a better one.
What I do regret is having to pay bills with the proceeds from a few tractor sales in the last 5 years.
If I could have kept that $ in a tractor fund I could have even better tractors now.

Sold my 1968 4020 at auction in Ute,Iowa in 1975 wish I could find it. Also sold my Dad's Super M to a Ron Warner in Elk River, Minn. He has since pasted so can't find out what happened to it. Would like to find both of them. If anyone hasany information I would like to know, Thanks John

Nope, I've sold 2. One IH TD5 project that just was way to expensive because I decided to restart the farm. I'm still looking for a small dozer but don't regret the TD5 going. The other was a AC 190XT series III and getting rid of that was one of the better things I've done. Wasn't really a problem tractor but IMO the PD live pto system was a joke.

I do not but a buddy of mine had a JD B that he sold for $700.......If he would have held onto it for a few years he could have sold it for $4,000. He was so pizzed off. He bought it for $450, sold for $700. Had it about 2 years.

I had an f20 when I was in high school mid 70s ag power class pulled it out of fence roe fixed it all up then discovered girls and sold it for 1oo dollars have kicked my own a## ever since

you always have regrets about selling something you have worked so hard on, and probably had way more money in than you got for the tractor, but i look at it like this, i knew i wouldnt get my money back when i started and i still had fun, even might have learned a couple new words moma didnt teach me, during the process, but on the other hand somebody got a good running and looking tractor they can be proud of and with the money i got and the fact that its now gone, than means another one can follow me home now , to do it all over again, such is the hobby

i have bought and sold a few tractors over the years and never looked back--sell one buy one and be happy if you broke even!!one tractor i built and never sold is an HTA a friend and I put a whole winter building one- and I put all the options I could think of on it -- 3pt.-tach-live hyd.-fenders-power steering-plus all the live stuff a 350 has-- i suppose I would sell that one to if the money was right--I hear they go for 5000 to 10000 dollars-- I say tempt me--ROY

I have bought and sold quite a few tractors over the years. There are a few I would not mind having back:

The 1947 JD "G" that was the first tractor I ever owned. Gave $350 for it with a stuck piston. Sold it in the late 1980s for $1500. I hated farming with it as it was hard to steer and was not that much power for its size. It would have been nice parade tractor now.

The 1963 Ford 6000 I had. I gave $2500 for it and ran it hard for quite a few years. Then started to have brake trouble with it. I got tired of fighting with Ford to get any parts and sold it for $1500. Kind of liked driving that tractor.

The all time BIGGEST regret on selling a tractor. In 1984 I bought a JD 4320 from a fellow that only had 700 original hours. It looked and ran like new. I gave $12500 for it and really planned to keep it. That winter things got tight and a fellow that had been on me to buy it made me a high offer an I sold it for $18500. I have kicked my butt ever since for that. I have been trying to put one together now for close to twenty years. It seems life always gets in the way.

John. . .a relative of mine, Darrell Barnett, operated that auction for many years. He passed away 7 or 8 yrs ago. I think his brother may have some records yet. If you had the SN of the 4020, I could do a little digging for you.

Randy,It was a really nice tractor.SoundGard,Quadrange;15.5x38/duals,9.5l 15 fronts,2 remotes.Owned it for 3 years, the bank made me sell it.It was teribly thirsty,Over 7 gal/hr.I guess it was the 'straw that broke the camels back',as I had a complete dispersal shortly later.Always thought it was a tad bit underpowered,A buddy's 4010 would 'smoke it'.I guess I would still own it if things had turned out different.....

regret, no
But, wish I could have kept them all? yes
One has to go down the road to get the next project bought.
After this winters heat bills... one is going to have to go to get the next one, and another will probably go to replace the extra heat money gone.

I know what you mean about it not being a powerhouse. My 1850 Oliver handled the plow better, but it sure was a sweet comfortable tractor to drive.

Don't have the sn, but tractor went local as I sold duals to the young man and delivered them. Took a day off a year ago and thought I could drive to his place. I didn't recognize anything, to much time has passed. The tractor was a 68 model with ps,wf,front weights and hiniker cab. If this helps you I would be very thankful. John
