Burned A LOT of wood this year, you too?

Took a good look yesterday, I bet I've burned close to twice the amount of wood we normally do. Glad I had extra! Dad always said, put away what you think you need then double it, I actually listened! I also remember having to choke the stove down enough to not run us out of the house normally. This year? This baby is on full blast about all the time! It's not over yet. I usually am getting ready to start some early cleanups and mulching at work. But now getting ready to plow 8" this weekend and lows of -2 on Monday. Oh well. Bet everyone has burned a bunch this year. BTW, burning the big honeysuckle worked just fine.

I would guess that I have burned 1½ my normal amount
....it is hard to tell because I have been cutting up some downed trees here and at the neighbors and have put it directly into the cellar to try and save what is in the wood shed. I really like the exercise and it gives me a little something to do. The wood shed is about 40% full, (about 8 face cord)and I have about 1 face cord in the cellar so I am in really good shape considering the year we have had!!!

Me too - I'd guess about 50% more than last year.

Except for a couple days out of town to visit kids/grandkids my woodburner's has been going 24/7 since Thanksgiving.

Same here, we have burned 50% more than usual at a guess. Been a lot of cold stretches and short thaws or none this winter. I've got enough for a few more weeks at these temps and then I will have to start cutting dead wood and bringing it in in a sled.

I just went out and did some quick measuring and calculating, and the result is that I have burned 8.72 cord of wood in the boiler. It heats 2400sq.ft. of house and 1800sf. of celler, plus this winter I have been finishing off my 24x40' tractor shop, which the boiler has kept 65F plus, all winter.
We have burned about a cord in our fireplace also.
At the end of the summer I had the woodshed full to the rafters, with just under 17 cord and 6 cord stored in the celler for the fireplace.
I gotta load up the wood cart again after lunch and roll it back in the shop next to the boiler. Some reason it doesn't stay full, HeHe.

Crazy amount more. Between the folks and I, usually 25 cords per year. So far, 28 cords, and still have two months of heating to go. I'm guessing it will end up being 33-34 cords put through two out door wood boilers.

I started the season with 8 ranked loads on
wheels in my back yard. Currently have 2 3/4
loads left & it's about 10° above and still
burning wood!!!! Last year I have 4 loads left
over.. Each wagon has close to a full cord
on them. My biggest problem this year is they
are too heavy to move with 3' feet of snow
drifted around them.

Yeah, I know what you are saying. I have been at the woodpile with a shovel digging around to find what is left, then prying some of that up with an ice spud that is frozen to the ground. I have burnt much more than ever before, plus the kid got a place with a wood stove, but he helped make the wood, so I have given him a lot.

It is a 80s amish built Speedway wagon gear The kids used to ride down the road and it's a wonder they didn't kill themselves. The wheels are all greasable ball bearings.
The wood rack just bolts to the running gear, and I have a flatbed with removable side boards for it, so the wifey can use it in the garden in the summer.

Last year I burned thirty, fifty lb. bags of coal. So far this year I have burned forty. My oil is tracking to be the same. Last Saturday I went and picked up a pallet of pellets for my son's father in law. He bought 25% more than last year and still ran out.

My dad always told me , make sure you have two years of wood ahead. now I know why. Glad I listened to him.
we have a wood oil boiler and I have already gotten into next years supply!

We've burned a lot, but we always burn a lot and I can't say for sure how much since it's not in stacks in one place.

My project for this year is to build a a 12x24 wood shed. Just a pole type shed with a 4x6 or 6x6 room for saws and stuff and a good over hang on each side. I should be able to get at least 14 full cord in there if I stack 8 foot high, 18 if I hang the room off the back or side. It would be such a pleasure to have it all in one place, under cover and dry. I'll build so I can add on.

Wood and hay, you can never have too much of either!
