ever pull your own tooth

When I was 7! Just found out this winter that I have an extra wisdom tooth, already had 5 pulled. Doc recommended getting it pulled, not looking forward to it. Not visible except on X-ray.

Well... It's not on my to do list any time soon!

Place I worked about 30 years ago, an old man pulled one in the restroom with some little vice grips. He was illegal, afraid if he went to the dentist they would ask too many questions and get him deported.

He should have been more worried about taking a bath... Anybody down wind of him would have preferred he'd be deported LOL

Not me but a neighbor lady pulled hers using a teaspoon. She is a tough ol country gal and yes alcohol was involved. I made a point never to cross her after that!

not really. A bunch of years ago, I was going to an old army dentist. He advised me that I'd need a wisdom tooth pulled. He asked if I wanted it pulled now or on my next six-month visit. I said, "now". Without any deadening, he reached in with his pliers and twisted it out! I thought it would hurt bad, and it did for the minute it took him, but after that, hardly any pain and next to no bleeding. I was glad it was done!

I have pulled several years ago. They become loose probably because I chewed tobacco all the time. Word of caution if you start to pull it do not back off. If you do there will be severe pain like you never felt before. Don't have that problem no more.

When I was a child and a tooth would become loose , I would tie a string around it and tie the string to a door knob and then slam the door. Then the tooth fairy paid.

The dental assistant at the dentist where I go told me the dentist was having a hard time pulling a tooth. Patient told dentist to put the pliers on the tooth to come out. Patient reached up with both hands took hold of the pliers and yanked the tooth out.
Dental assistant told me who it was. He always has been a crazy guy.

Many years ago my sister and I were arguing.....one on each side of the screen door. F2F. She knew my tooth was loose, threw a punch right through the screen, and knocked it out!

lady at our church did that about a week ago, around 60 y/o, said it hurt, didnt have money for dentist and I pulled it out, she smiled and I said yes maaaaaaam!

At local sale barn the young tuff guts pulled each other's tooth to see who was toughest. That was too mild and they got out the electric branding iron. Two cowboys wear a brand on the hip. Much whiskey involved. I wonder if there is a correlation between sensitivity to pain and intelligence.

Worked with a guy that told me this story about a former co-worker "Eddie". Eddie had a tooth that was bothering him and after dinner one day he proceeded to remove it with a pair of pliers. After the job was done Eddie ran his tongue around the site, realized that he had pulled the wrong one and had to start over again!

I watched my dad pull one of his own with a pliers many years ago. He was strange sometimes. He never went to the dentist.

I pulled part of one that cracked in half at 6 pm one night last October, Told the dental receptionist it was buggin me real bad before it broke, said they hadn"t got time to see me before next appointment.

I had told them once before. If I phone and say it"s buggin me it"s pretty bad I want to see someone, or I"ll smack the next guy that annoys me in the shop or pull it my self.
I have high pain thresh hold and they know that. Had 2 top wisdoms pulled there, Dentist said he"d never had any guys in his chair pullin back as he pulls down n forward. said most peoples heads follow him pulling
Well I had no choice but to pull this half my self, couldn"t eat talk or shut my mouth right.

When they phoned to confirm next app. she asked how that tooth was. Just casually said "remember what I told you once", she said yes. then she said "I hope you never smacked the guy". said nope "half that tooth"s in the draw by my bed". it kinda went very quiet, she new I wasn"t bluffing on at least one part of what I told her one day.
I got to the dentists he took one look as the receptionist had told him. All he said was in 30 years. I have had guys threaten to pull their own teeth, but never had a guy even close to following through.

All I will say is i tried 3 different small pliers in my model makers plier kit, before I found something that worked and 2 Tylenol, Don"t work 1/4 as good as what the dentist gives you.

Make your own choice is all i will say!
Regards Robert

Had one that got a root canal done back in the 80's so it was long dead. Just before christmas this year it broke in half. Hurt like blazes when I bit on it, because it drove the broken part down. Was on friday and couldn't get in til monday, by sunday I pulled the broken part out. It's been fine since and the rest is still there. Didn't hurt too bad, but the sound of it tearing out was enough to creep me out. lol

luapp,
Why he-- yes!!I'm down to 6 teeth now, two of them are loose.50# test fishing line, violla they're gone. Saves $300.00, remember a penny saved is a penny earned. When they're all gone. it will be up to Affordable dentistry for teeth. Can't wait till they're all gone.

I can tell you, if it gets infected it will be excruciating, that infection gets out of hand, I don't believe, but I am no MD, is a good thing either, too close to ones brain is it ? Have to research it. Had a root canal go bad, eventually lost a back one, it got out of hand quick, I remember it well because my farmer friend came by to see if I could rake a whole bunch of hay, a job I loved doing, but the pain was enormous, once the pain meds kicked in, much better, sucked because I had to tell him no, as I came out with an ice pack on my face.

Dentist who removed said offending tooth, noticed it was completely out of character as the remaining ones were always well taken care of, gums in nice shape, all very healthy. That sucker hurt, glad he took me in right away that day, $300 cash money well spent. Cripes needles in the gums are nothing compared to this pain, had the same one used on the inside of the nose so the doc could cauterize some odd ball thing, that was not fun, tooth still takes the lead on pain, though, I'd deal with it with a DMD.

When I was a kid and my primary teeth started loosening up my Dad would pull them. He wouldn't just pull them, he had to make a big show of it. He'd get a hammer and chisel, or a crow bar...... but when it came right down to it he'd either use his fingers or a pair of dentists pliers. I probably pulled 4 or 5 of last ones myself.
Had to had my wisdom teeth surgically removed. Slept through that. Only had one other permanent tooth pulled. It was excruciating. Dentist gave me a shot of Novocaine but didn't wait long enough for it to work. Then he wasn't strong enough to pull the tooth. It took at least three minutes of him wiggly and pulling on that tooth. He was pulling so hard the dental assistant was laying on top me trying to hold me down. Dislocated my jaw. Bone and tooth splinters worked their way through my gums for several months. All in all not a pleasant experience!
Told a buddy about it. He suggested that when the dentist was ready to pull the tooth I should have reached over and grabbed the dentist by the balls and said we're not going to hurt each other, are we?
Same tooth on the other side needs a root canal and crown. $2500. Or it needs to be pulled. $150.
I haven't decided which route I'm going to go, but if it's coming out that dentist is not going to be the one pulling it!

Two stories about teeth; Knew a guy 19 went to dentist had tooth pulled, had stroke shortly after from blood clot partly paralyzed left side at 19.
One of our boys just had an infection at the root of a tooth ended up in surgery had to remove part of his jawbone ect $5000.00 bill. Only thing He can think of is a while back He was leaving a restaurant and a case of mistaken ID someone hit him from behind knocking him to sidewalk and doing some damage to his teeth may have started infection

Old French Canadian electrician I knew not only pulled his own teeth, he had a tumor on the side of his head and cut that out himself. Strange man, great electrician.

In high school I worked for a great man who owned a general store in southern Ohio. He was a B-24 tail gunner in WWII-shot down. Toughest man I ever knew-not afraid of anyone or anything...except needles. Wouldn't go to the dentist because of the novacane shot.
He had a bad tooth one day and the next it was gone. I asked him if he had pulled it. He said yep..He went out to his garage, put a vice grip on the tooth, a string on the vice grip with a window sash weight attached. He threw the weight over the joists in the garage and the weight jerked the tooth out. I asked, "Didn't that hurt. He said just a bit..especially the first time when the vice grip slipped off the tooth. He said, "When it slips off you just kinda dance around a bit on your tip toes and try not to wet yourself." It took him three tries to get the tooth out. He pulled several of his teeth that way.

Just want to add that most of the time I was in the Navy, I worked with an oral surgeon. One reason the Novocain does not work on an infected tooth is the Novocain cannot penetrate the infection to deaden the nerve. Doc would tell them to just hang on for a second and it would be over. He would pop it right out.

I've never seen anyone pull their own tooth. However I saw a video of my grand daughter kick a socker ball with a string attached to the ball and to her lose tooth. Tooth came out on the first kick. She likes playing socker. The tooth was about to fall out. She thought it real was cool.

Not sure how much the tooth fairy paid.

I know a guy that drank vodka for breakfast, vodka for lunch, and vodka for dinner, and probably also for snacks, brunch, dessert, etc.. His teeth were rotten, he found a pair of vise-grips and a quart of vodka and took care of his rotten teeth. Neither the vodka or his home dentistry has killed him yet.

That said, infections can kill or do serious harm to the heart, brain, and other parts of the body if they set in. Blood clots can mess up/kill people. Parts of teeth/roots can be left in that may cause trouble later. Unless it was the emergency of all emergencies, I'd see a dentist or go to the emergency room to get a tooth yanked.

Case in point- my FIL at 57 or thereabouts years old got an infected tooth. The infection spread and rotted out his heart valves causing him to have a series of strokes. I could play the blame game and point out that his doctors missed all the classic signs of an infection for the better part of 2 weeks, but the fact is he knew he had some bad teeth and did less than nothing about it. There are limits to being tough and stoic and cheap.

I think that's called endocarditis. Very serious condition.
