Some of you mid Michigan guys, there's a fire going on at Sackett Potato Farm. Looks like it started in the office.

I remember when the big storage barn at my uncles when up in smoke . when all was said and done for ya had BAKED BOILED And Mashed all in one place just depending on just where you dug in the pile . happened on Christmas day . The roof and insulation is what caught fire . The storage building was for the most part under ground and was made of cement . It was HUGE about 70 or so feet wide and over 200 feet long and 24 foot high . He used a poor choice for insulation as it was straw bales . They never did figure out why it went up . The fire dept. did not have a water problem as the storage was wright next to one of the irrigation ponds .

Most of the old storage cellars in Idaho used straw with sand poured on it for insulation. In their dry desert climate the straw lasted for years. When we Iowans first saw that straw we couldn't believe what we saw. In Iowa that straw wouldn't last a year. Jim

I went to school with the operator of Sackett farms, saw him in church last Sunday... He's about as straight up as anyone I know. He, and the farms have my sympathies for their loss.
