Never Brag (about your tractor)

The other day I started a thread about "Tractor Repair Gratification". I had planned to tell about a bulldozer we fixed and how good it ran. while writing it My brother calls and tells Me the bulldozer has a crankcase full of diesel fuel so I refrained from telling the story. Yesterday I was following the 3020 we put the six cyl. engine in so I called the previous owner to tell him what we had done and how well it had turned out. We went about another block and stopped at a light and all of a sudden smoke starts coming from under the dash. My brother jumps off and pulls a battery cable while I grab a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. We take it on to his house and found that that someone had run a wire from the key switch to the injector pump on the previous engine and it had shorted out. All that to say be careful how you brag something bad might happen at least it does for Me.

Couple weeks ago I was telling someone how much I liked my 05 F250. Alternator went out the next morning at 6 am in the snow in the dark 10 miles from home.

In the service we called that "talk s##t, get bit." Happens to me every time I brag or say I will never have to do something.

That reminds me about a tale my dad and uncle told me about our neighbour Sid. many years ago he bought a new David Brown tractor ( I forget what model) and Oh there never was a tractor made like this DB, it was absolutely wonderful and he never failed to tell all and sundry about his new purchase. In fact the locals in the pub had to know about his new pride and joy. He even convinced his friend Joe to buy a tractor just like his. Well Joe bought one and to be honest, he thought it was crap! So much so that he went to visit Sid on his farm to tell him in no uncertain exactly what he thought to it, only to find Sid sitting on a brand new MF 35! he had just traded the DB in for it "I"ve changed my mind!" said Sid "This is a much better tractor!"

And that's why I carry a fire extinguisher in every tractor and truck. Cheap cheap protection.

I just keep my mouth shut. There"s too much old junk around here to begin with, I don"t need to make it any worse.
