Question for ACG guy.

I am not Adirondack Case Guy but I set 25 taps today and will set 6 more as soon as I make lids for the buckets and find the taps that I know are somewhere. All but one of the holes I drilled were running before I put the spile in the hole. You get your purest and highest grade sap early in the run, but we eat all grades of syrup and don't mind.

Obviously I am not ACG, but we started on Sunday - managed 72 taps, traipsing through 2 feet of snow with snow shoes that are a size small.

Did another 373 today to give us a total of 445 which is almost what we did last year. Now we just have to tap the 600 or so that we have added for this season. Pretty wiped out right now, though. Snowshoeing through 2+ feet of snow is tough going!

It will start soon up here on the Canadian border. It was probably running yesterday but we're due for single digits next week. Sounds like an on again/off again season. At least no one was out in Jan trying to tap! I've seen that happen.

We are going to wait until this next cold snap is over and then go from there. We tapped a few last year the last week of feb. and the darned things dried up before the season really got going. Did about 585 taps last year. Probably do something in the same neighborhood this year. get darned sick of carting buckets around by the time we get done tapping.

Oh yeah. We have one guy who tapped in jan. He uses the plastic bags and had his guys dig holes in the ground side of the trees to put the bags in to keep them from freezing up.
