Has Anyone Shipped with Fastenal?

Just curious if anyone has used them to ship or recieve goods. I am about to give them a try myself as I've heard good things. I do have 1 question.....could a item (if something that isn't fragile) be shipped without packaging it? As in, could I simply apply a shipping tag to it and ship it that way? I have a Fast Hitch Bail (solid u-shaped bar) with the 2 mounting brackets that I need to ship. It wouldn't hurt anything by shipping it unpackaged, and trying to package that thing would be tough due to its odd size and weight.

Just looking for suggestions on the packaging question and whether you guys have any expierence with Fastenal.

THANKS

I received the lift parts for my JD H cultivator from a Michigan through Fastenal. It wasn't packaged but it did need to be on a pallet. The two lift rods overhung the pallet without any issue. My only problem was they didn't call me when it arrived, but that is a local store issue.

Never used that service through them. I just hope your local store is better than mine. A bakery has fewer turnovers than that store. Never the same person and I gave up on having a sales rep. NAPA started filling my bolt bin for me for Fastenal "forgets" I have one. Done with my rant....

Had a cream separator banded to a pallet and shipped by Fastenal from Northern Wisconsin to Washougal, WA. Arrived in five days at local store. Great way to go.

Use them all the time here. Just strap it to a pallet and drop it off at
their store. Cheapest way to ship.

Usually when you strap things to a pallet it means that you're gonna pay more than if boxing something up because it is "freight" class. Does it matter with fastenal? It would be easier to strap it to a pallet but I could also box it up if I could find a box big enough. Just trying to save on the shipping the best I can.

Your best bet is to cal Fastenal and ask them if it needs to be boxed or on a pallet. Or check their website. Everyone I've heard of using Fastenal to ship has strapped large items to a pallet.

Here at work if we ship something UPS that is not in a box there is an additional fee.
Ups has really been coming up with more and more and greater and greater fees.
They make us go by dimensional weight too and on something light but awkward size that really adds to the price.

Having that this peice is large but doesn't need a pallet because it isn't that heavy or bulky like a small engine, I think I will just make a box from some cardboard and tape. It's not going anywhere and it won't get damaged, so just as long as it is in a box.

I am really excited about using Fastenal, and hope it works out well (price, ease, and handling time) becuase I will definitely use them in the future for larger items on pallets like implements, parts, etc.

Well.....I rode around town (for an hour or more) last night and couldn't find a box. I looked in all the cardboard hoppers, and by stores, etc. to find nothing. I am almost ready to strap it to a pallet and drop it off at Fastenal. Just wondering if you think the price would be different.....I know it normally would, but with Fastenal they are putting it on their truck the same and this isn't typical freight shipping or UPS shipping, etc.
