Yahoo mail question

I always just delete email from somebody I don't know. But is there a danger in just opening and reading something from somebody you don't know or do you have to open an attachment to an email to cause any danger to your computer?

I have never gotten a virus by reading the e-mail. I believe you must open the attachment to get infected and I never open them.

Forwarded attachments are the biggest danger. It's common for a bot to be hidden in an attachment that will send said attachment to everyone on your mailing list as if it's actually been sent by you. Also hidden in the attachment can be numerous malware and viruses. The email itself is most often safe as you are not opening it on your puter, just reading it from the server.

But attachments of any kind are a risk.

My computer pulled a trick on me a while back. I normally use the shift key to highlight a bunch of unwanted e-mails and delete them all at once. Well, I highlighted them, hit delete and it opened every darn one of them. They were stacked up on top on one another. So, I deleted them one at a time with out opening any attachments. Since that happened I get a lot of junk which I keep adding to blocked sender or blocked sender site. It keeps dumping a lot into junk but every day get a few new ones I have to add to junk blocked mail. Static electricity has been playing tricks on me so I have stung a wire to a good grounded water pipe and soldered it to a nice pretty washer, sits along side phone and computer so I just touch that before touching computer or phone. The phone would go nuts. Knocked out one of my camera card USB port readers. Even set off the carbon monoxide detector one time. I was opening doors and looking all over. Tricks.

I just wondered. My spam filter must be set pretty high since now and again things I might want end up there. I get probably 5-6 emails a day in there. I just click "delete all" if it's not something I recognize, but sometimes I wonder if more might be legit.

Lots of good scams heard of one just recently on phones robot calls from overseas if you answer there will be charges on phone they say dont answer unless you know it.
Had one odd call checked number on google turned out it was a company that i got a arm sling from or i should say the hospital apperantly from all the complants they had differnt scams going .one was trying to make you pay twice.
Also bought a flail chopper emailed the guy back and forth andd i dont know how it worked but it got through the filters and 2 years latter i got an email and he wanted me to email back somehow pieces didnt fit one thing i check is sent messages some how a guy got into my contact list and everybody i had on the list was emailed from my computer.so now i have 2 email address 1 for people i know and the other that i can get rid off if junk shows up

New Hotmail upgrade required to Outlook-- and address book grabbed by some spambot to send something to everybody on it- the state DOT, bill paying confirmation address, family, comments to newspaper and a bunch of Mailer Demon notices. Had to send a warning to everybody just to warn them and keep from being put on there spam filters. And Outlook wanted to get some feedback on their new look, features--they got some feed back and a bunch of forwarded spam. For Yahoo I use 2 accounts- old one gets lots of spam/scams is banned from their Answers, new one is relatively clean so far, no Facebook links yet like old one that had some for church posts. Some scammers get real sneaky. Lots of the porn and dating sites for Yahoo accounts saying they had Facebook links, bunch of the dating sites saying I should contact the Jewish or Russian or black woman advertised on them. No Germans yet. RN

Yahoo mail is pretty lame actually.
I've been using it for 10=12 years not and I think 3 times now some one got into my address book/contacts and sent a virus to everyone in it.
I deleted ALL my contacts and haven't had a problem since. I just go back in my inbox and find a user I want to email and C/P it into the email. I've had a couple of viruses from them too.
All I did was open it and was infected. I did NOT open any attachments.
I'd get rid of it but don't know if any of the web based emails are any better.

It is definitely possible to get a virus just by opening the email.
Most come from opening an attachment or clicking a link within the
email, but others do not require you to do anything but open it.

Aw geeze! I opened two of yours today. You didn't dump something in to my computer did you? LOL

Nah, don't make any friends that way! LOL

I'll save that stuff for my bosses when they give me some of
those wonderful jobs. Like making me go back into the office
tonight in this weather to fix a server that they could have and
should have fixed when people were there on Saturday.

Oh well, at least I have four wheel drive!

I don't know if the boy is home from work yet or not,but if you see him driving 30 miles an hour along the way, wave to him.
